Lounging on Lake Austin

This past weekend we jaunted the 160 mile trek across the most gorgeous Texas country side on highway 290 to get from Houston to Austin.
Let me tell you, Houston is starting to get HOT.  REALLY HOT.  Like it almost hurts being outside at times, HOT.   Thankfully this past weekend we were able to cool off in the almost less scorching temperatures of Austin. But we were on a lake …. so that really is what made everything better.

My college roommate, Julie, is from Austin and she was in town for the weekend.  I hadn’t seen this dear friend of mine since she was a bridesmaid in my wedding, a year ago!
Our reunion was long overdue.

We made plans to meet up in her hometown and spend the day on the lake with a few of her friends.
I still can’t get over the fact that this massive lake is right in the middle of the city.   At times, I felt like we were miles away from civilization when we were maybe only fifteen minutes from downtown.
Austonions, you have it good!

Probably my favorite part of our day on the lake was when our boat driver/tour guide (friend of Julie’s) drove us through this little moat that ran parallel to the lake.
This moat (or stream/creek …I’m not really sure) was lined by the most gorgeous houses, or should I say mansions, that I’ve ever seen!
Floating past these homes felt like the real life equivalent of flipping through the pages of House Beautiful.

Can you imagine if this was one of your many patios?  I’m pretty sure that that’s a fireplace in the center, under the ceiling fan.
Nope…..I definitely can’t imagine that.

We spent the majority of our day cruising all across the lake, swimming, and soaking up just enough sun to be plum tuckered out by 8pm.
We packed a lot into our short two day weekend trip and Sunday Patrick and I spent the day playing tourists.  I’ll just have to fill you all in on the rest of our Austin getaway tomorrow!
Thanks so much for reading and happy Monday ya’ll!
