A Country Christmas

Christmas seemed to come and go faster this year than ever before.
Maybe that is just one of the things that goes along with growing older?
This year, Patrick and I headed up to Memphis, Tennessee to spend the holiday with my family.  It was a wonderful trip, filled with plenty of relaxing, Christmas music, parties, presents and lots and lots of food!
We spent one day of our holiday vacation at my uncle’s farm, about 45 minutes south of Memphis, in Mississippi.
My uncle’s “farm” is actually more of an antebellum farm house sitting on a whole lot of land, with a couple of horses and barn. The house was built in the mid 1800s and hash’t changed a bit since! Well, except for the addition of electricity and indoor pluming. But other than that, when you’re visiting it’s like traveling back in time. The amazing collection of antique furniture certainly helps with that!
Patrick and I actually got married and had our wedding reception here, in 2013. We hadn’t visited the farm since that wonderful day a year and a half ago, so it was so much fun to come back and spend the day with family, having fun and reminiscing on our wedding day.

As soon as we arrive, we headed out to the barn, which is right next to the field where we held our ceremony. The place looks totally different in the dead of winter than it did on that warm summers day in 2013!
Several of my favorite wedding pictures were taken in front of this barn. I’ll share a few of those with ya’ll at the bottom of this post.
Naturally, I couldn’t help taking this opportunity to show off my absolute favorite winter sweater and new cow “girl” boots, in front of this very pretty backdrop.

Spending a chilly winter’s day outdoors, I wanted to be warm and cozy without sacrificing style.  Mostly because I knew that we would be taking family pictures that day.

This grey poncho solved that problem! And I am totally digging how ponchos have come back in style these past few years. The one that I’m wearing is from Anthropologie and it’s unfortunately sold out. I’ve linked a couple of similar styles that I think are just as cute.

When I bought it, I never dreamed I’d get the opportunity to wear it down in Houston, but it’s surprisingly not so heavy that I think it’ll work on those colder Texas weather days. But I will say, this cozy poncho has been a fabulous addition to my wardrobe on this cold trip to Memphis! Sorry family, for wearing this pretty much everyday that I’ve been here!

Ya’ll also know how much I love my cowboy boots! I’ve found myself reaching for them in my closet more and more lately, pairing them with anything and everything.
These Old Gringo Night Hawk Stitched Boots are from Cavender’s and are honestly the most comfortable pair of cowboy boots I’ve ever owned. As soon as I slipped them on, I knew they were going to come home with me!
Most of the other pairs of boots that I own are either brown or camel colored. I love that this pair is black with brown accents. I’ve found that they look great paired with black dresses, belts or black jackets, which is something that just didn’t look as good with the other boots in my closet.
Not only stylish, but these boots are great for hopping fences and and trekking through muddy fields!
Which is what happened just after we snapped these photos!

Patrick and I wandered through the field, admiring my uncle’s horses and reminiscing on our wedding day.

It is kind of funny to think about how now the field is home to Cheyenne and Tex, these two horses. They must have no idea that a wedding ceremony with 300+ people in attendance was once held in their own home.

After a bit of exploring, we headed up to the house, where my older brother had found an antique dinner gong and was legitimately ringing it to announce that it was time for our delicious southern dinner.

It was a wonderful day at the farm and I would love to be able to come in town to visit more often, spending many more days like this. That is what makes the holiday season so special, making memories and spending time with family.

As I mentioned earlier, here are a few of our wedding photos taken at this same location, just a year and a half before!

Of course I had to wear cowboy boots with my wedding dress! Wouldn’t have had it any other way. Plus….they make for some great dancing shoes! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by the blog, today! Hope you all had a very merry Christmas and were able to spend the holiday with family and friends!
