Breaking All the Rules

One of my favorite things about fashion is that you really can do whatever you want with it. There are no “rules.” Although, some people swear by never mixing navy & black or that your bag should always match your shoes. All power to them. I think fashion rules are meant to be broken!

Today I’m breaking the rules by wearing a dress as a top. At my 5’6″ frame, not too tall but not too short either, I typically can’t get away with this. Y’all all know I love the Houston based online boutique Flora + Mia. So when I saw this high-low flowy tunic dress at their pop-up shop, I knew it needed to come home with me. (Admittedly, I truly did think it was a top before I realized it was, in fact, a dress.)

What first drew me to this dress was the ruffled high-neckline. High-neckline dresses, tops & tanks are popping up everywhere this year! Could it be that Downton Abbey’s tight high-neck frocks of the early 20th century inspired this trend? While that’s probably not the case, the Downton Abbey fanatic in me likes to think so. 🙂
Since we’re on topic of this new-found trend, here are a few high-neckline pieces I’m loving right now:

On a non fashion related note, Patrick and I tried out the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema for the first time last night! To celebrate Houston Restaurant Week, they are offering a prix-fixe 3-course dinner for $35 that includes your meal, ticket price, & another ticket you can use on a future visit. In addition to all of that, with the purchase of each ticket Alamo Drafthouse will donate $5 towards the Houston Food Bank.
While watching the Fantastic Four, we sipped on our favorite beers, dined on chips & salsa, tasty burgers, and even had cookies & milkshakes. (I’m still so full!) The movie may not have been the greatest film I’d ever seen, but the dining experience sure was fun! If you’re lucky enough to have an Alamo Drafthouse nearby, I definitely recommend a visit. (Especially during restaurant week!)
As always, thanks for stopping by the blog!
