Polka Dot Two Piece

With the whole 70s trend in full swing, the matchy matchy two piece set is one component of chic 70s style that has been a bit under the radar, until now.
From the fashion week runways, to stylish celebrities, to NYFW street style … & finally to Houston, Texas – the two piece set has become a mainstream trend and I’m absolutely thrilled.

The last time I wore a matching two piece set, I was probably 8 years old. Remember those bright & floral Lilly Pullitzer outfits (probably a lot of us) wore as kids?
Kids always look oh-so cute when matching head to toe.
As an adult, it’s still totally appropriate to rock a two matching piece outfit.
So I’m sharing some super simple tips you can use when picking out or styling a 2 piece set, so you can look fantastic … & anything but childish. 🙂
Tip #1:
Keep accessories to a minimum or in the same color family. (After all, your matching top & bottom are the show stoppers here.)

I styled this mini skirt with my favorite pair of over the knee (or as social media calls them – OTK) boots. With over-the-knee boots, I feel like you can wear the shortest of skirts & the boots make the look seem more covered up. (While still being a bit sexy at the same time, of course.)
These Seychelles pretties were a splurge from Anthro last fall, but they are now on SUPER sale at Gilt! Get them while they’re “hot”!

Tip #2:
Stick with subtle prints.
A coordinating two piece set is already in-your-face bold fashion.
By keeping the print subtle, or more on the neutral side, you can still look
polished & sophisticated at the same time. The bright and bolder prints are fun, don’t get me wrong, there just
aren’t as many places you can get away with wearing them.
And lastly, tip #3:
Add a blazer.
While I’m
not doing this today with this matching set, I can only imagine how chic this
outfit would look topped with a structured black blazer! Especially if your two piece set happens to be more
on the un-structured side. A blazer (in any color really) instantly finishes
off (& kinda breaks up) this bold look.

There you have it! My simple tips on how to style & rock
a matching two piece set.
The one I’m wearing is from Few Moda, an ultra-chic &
modern online boutique that I just can’t get enough of. I’m  also excited to style this two piece set in so
many different ways this fall.  For one,
the top looks cute with jeans! And  the
skirt is also adorable with a white button-down.  I guess that technically is tip #4: style
your two piece set individually for a number of new looks from just one purchase.
A bunch of my favorite places to shop have also picked up on
this trend. Here are a few that I’m loving:

Who else is having fun (or planning on) rocking the matching two piece set this fall?
