Re-Working Summer Sundresses for Fall & Winter

If you’re like me, you might have a whole section of your closet devoted to summer sundresses.
But as we all know, sundresses are called “sun” dresses for a reason. They are meant for summer days and sunshiny weather.
However, I’m breaking with tradition & here today to tell you that you CAN wear your summer sundresses during the fall & winter.

I usually associate gingham prints with spring and summer.  And the girly girl in me absolutely loves throwing on a flirty summer sundress with a pair of strappy sandals and a straw bag as soon as the season allows it.

With spring nowhere in  sight – I didn’t want to wait an entire season just to wear this pretty pretty dress from The Trellis Shop
So I decided to dress my sundress up for fall/winter.
My solution to transitioning almost any sundress to a cooler season is …. (drum roll) …. chambray.

Whether it be a chambray button up worn under a sundress or a chambray button up unbuttoned and worn as a jacket of sorts – chambray instantly takes your summery look into fall/winter. (*tip: try & opt for a darker shade of chambray!)
Cowboy boots and dark leather accents have always screamed fall to me so I matched my boots to my belt to tie everything together.

I added a pop of glam with a (subtle) but statement making gold necklace and a solid olive green purse for a pop of fall/winter color.

Okay yes – I don’t have a coat or leggings on with this look AND it just so happens to be 40 degrees in Houston today. (Not normal) but let’s ignore that for a second.  Because usually fall & winter in Houston feel like early/late fall to the rest of the country. So this look works pretty much the majority of the time. 🙂
Do you like to re-work your summer sundresses for fall & winter too? If so, what are your favorite ways to style them?
Be sure to check out Houston’s new online boutique The Trellis Shop. You can shop directly from their instagram. & with the cutest collection of styles for “winter in Texas,” I’m sure you’re going to love them as much as I do!
I hope you all had a happy holiday! I had so much fun visiting family in both Mississippi & Tennessee! It was so good to go back home for a little bit and see my old stomping grounds.  Patrick and I even managed to fit in a tour of Elvis Presley’s home at Graceland.  Don’t worry, I snapped one too  many photos & hope to have a blog post all about it soon!
Hope you all are enjoying the last few days of 2015.  And as always, thanks for stopping by the blog!
