Blue Valentine

This post was intended to talk all about this pretty blue Valentine’s Day dress of mine.
(Really it’s just a pretty blue dress that in my opinion would make for the perfect non-stereotypical Valentine’s Day dress.)
But what I want to touch on briefly before I get way too personal, is the fact that it’s kinda hard to be fashion blogger & “on” all the time, especially when some things going on in your life are a bit too hard to handle while sharing pictures of yourself smiling in the prettiest of dresses.

:

I love sharing my life with you all, and I love the personal aspects that I choose to share which I feel makes The Lone Star Looking Glass more than just a blog with pretty pictures. I hope you all can relate to me (alice) the person behind the blog too!

Well, I found out this weekend that my dear old dad has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

I won’t go into too much detail because it is deeply personal on a level that I kinda like to keep … off of the internet. Plus, I don’t want to dwell on the negative in this happy online space of mine that I go to for a fun escape.  And I’m going to do my darndest (is that a word?) to focus on the positive and the road to recovery that he is starting today!

So if I tend to disappear more so than usual here and there in the coming weeks. It’s probs because I’m a bit preoccupied. Any advice from anyone who has gone through something similar?

I will admit, I did let myself take today off work to just process & decompress the news.  My pups were thrilled to have their mama home all day and I caught up on one to many of my Netflix shows.

I can tell I’m already feeling myself again and shortly I’ll be ready to conquer the world and most importantly help my dad conquer his battle.

For starters, sitting here writing out this post has gotten me off of the couch! Woo progress!

Because I can’t leave all y’all hanging with just two weeks away from the big holiday without a glimpse (or 7) at the prettiest of Rent the Runway dresses, now can I?

(Hello – look how fabulous this back is!)

I love doing what’s expected when it comes to fashion and the holidays – but I also like to step outside of the box and try something different every once in a while too.

That’s why I’m loving the idea of rocking blue for Valentine’s Day as opposed to the stereotypical pink & red.

Also maybe it’s due to the fact that I just personally love all things blue!

Speaking of which, here are a few similar styles that I think are as cute as can be:

I rented this oh-so-pretty Sachin & Babi dress from Rent the Runway for my sister-in-law’s rehearsal dinner back in January. I had such fun wearing it that night, that it was incredibly hard to say goodbye and drop the dress bag in the mail the Monday morning following.
The high-low hem gives this cocktail dress an extra shot of oomph, which is always fine with me!
Shop the Look:
So there you have it, one of my favorite blue dresses that I think would make the fanciest of Valentine’s Day dates that much … fancier.
And now, the reason why I wanted to tell you all what was going on behind the scenes of The Lone Star Looking Glass was because I simply want everyone to know that no matter what we highlight and put out on the web, as pretty & perfect as it may appear to be, we all have our own personal struggles and we’re all thrown with different & difficult things each & every day in this life. Some days it might just be much bigger than others.
I choose to see the pretty & shiny whenever I can and I choose to seek joy in every single day. Plus I loooooove me some fashion & some getting dressed up! (Even if it is just to go to Kroger.) I have so many fun things to share with you all this month on The Lone Star Looking Glass and I am so grateful to have this happy place/ blogger community filled with positive people to interact with on a daily basis! Going forward, I probably will keep the bigger personal struggles going on on the down low, but I felt it wouldn’t be right for me to ignore them completely.
SO today I just want to say THANK YOU for stopping by, reading along and being a part of The Lone Star Looking Glass! Y’all sure do make this hobby of mine extra special (during the good times & bad!)
