Navy Florals: Leap Day Edition

Happy Leap Day!
Today is February 29th, a special day that only comes around once every four years. As with most obscurities on the standard calendar, we don’t even question the mysterious addition that is leap day.
We just go with it.  Like nobody stops to think & question, why Feb. only has 28 days but October has 31?
Okay, I lied. I am totally questioning this.
For the answers, and a look at this oh so cute navy shift dress,

Okay so leap day!

This is what google tells me: a leap year is a special year when an extra day is added to the calendar. This only happens once every four years due to the SOLAR SYSTEM y’all.
It’s something about the Georgian Calendar that we use, which lasts only 365 days. And the complete orbit of the sun takes 365.2422 days exactly.
So a leap day, once every four years, is necessary to even things out.
Or else it would probably be October right now ….

Oh and the whole, months with more days and months with less days thing? This is actually VERY interesting! As it turns out, good old Julius Caesar wanted to add one more day to July, the month named after him, because he basically just really liked himself.

So he took a day from another month to make his longer.

His predecessor, Augustus Caesar was not happy, when he had only 29 days in his month. So he took two from February to even out his month with Julius’.
So insane!
Okay, sooooo let’s actually talk about this navy blue shift dress now.
This pretty shift dress was a recent Anthropologie purchase of mine. I love anything with big billowy sleeves! And if it comes in navy blue and white – no matter what, I’m sold!

The mesh material up top adds a fun contrast to the bold print.  And the little ruffle details where the print meets the mesh is pure perfection!

I paired this with the most comfortable lace up heels a girl could ever own, my fringe clutch and a pair of silver leather statement earrings.
Usually when I wear this dress to work, I pair it with my tall cowboy boots. I like to keep a pair of heels in the car just in case though. Sometimes I never know where I end up going after work!
Plus, for some reason I feel like shift dresses give off a “professional” vibe. While this one has mesh details, and I KNOW is not “professional,” I still like rocking a shift dress at work, as funky as it may be!

My favorite thing about this dress is that it’s such a perfect winter to spring transitional dress. It has elements of both season! And honestly, for Anthro, it’s price point isn’t too bad either! Coming in at only $128!
So how are YOU celebrating Leap Day today!? Anyone flying to Ireland to propose to their boyfriend? Seriously, that movie Leap Day is adorable and if you haven’t seen it, today is the perfect day to watch it!
As always, thanks for stopping by the blog!
