Accessorizing with Abejas

I may live in party dresses and flowy skirts on the blog, most of the time, but my day-to-day “uniform” consists of denim and easy flowy tops.

Depending on how you accessorize these simple pieces, you can bring your look from couch sitting to a day-date in no time! Today, I’ve teamed up with Houston’s Abejas Boutique to let you guys in on a few tips on how to elevate your basics from comfy and casual to casual-chic, from head-to-toe!

Abjeas Boutique is named after the Spanish word for bumble bee. (Fun, right?!) It’s an adorable eclectic destination on Kirby Drive right around the corner from Rice Village. If you’re a fan of all things flowy and bohemian, you’re going to lose your mind (kind of like I did) when walking into the boutique! It’s a boho-lovers paradise!

Accessorizing is Key

I try my best never to leave the house without at least one or two accessories. In the words of Oscar de la Renta, “A woman makes an outfit her own with accessories.”

For this look, I paired white beaded jewelry and a matching snakeskin messenger bag.

A few things to keep in mind when accessorizing:

  • Balance.  For example, you wouldn’t pair long statement earrings with a long statement necklace. Pick one and play off the rest of your jewelry with smaller simpler pieces.
  • Mix Neutrals with Bolds. For this look, I went neutral all the way. But my simple top & bottoms would have also looked great with bold & bright colors.  For the opposite effect, when you’re wearing bold colors, stick with neutral jewelry & accessories.
  • Too Matchy Matchy can be Clashy Clashy.  If you’re head to toe in pink, you wouldn’t want to pair a pink purse and pink earrings with it too … right? Too much isn’t always a good thing! Remember the color wheel back in grade school art classes? The opposite shades on a color wheel almost always look best when paired together.
  • Boast Your Bests & Have Fun. We all know having fun is number one when it comes to fashion. (Or at least it should be!) When accessorizing, enjoy yourself and use this as an opportunity to show off your favorite features. Example: Small waist? Show it off with a skinny belt.

Go with the Fun Shoes.

Take your simple look from netflix binging to shopping with friends by slipping on a pair of fun shoes and grabbing a chic handbag.

While that pair of converse or your trusty flip flops are always easy to reach for, the lace-up gladiators are instantly dress up your threads.

This pair of Lucille Sandals from Abejas are crazy comfortable and the laces stay right in place.

Now it’s time to walk into the work week! I’m super rejuvenated after a relaxing weekend, spent watching even more Gilmore Girls. But I did make it out of the house for a bridal shower picnic & a Pinterest Workshop with some of my favorite bloggers!

So excited to start putting all of this Pinterest knowledge to use! Speaking of which, if you’re not following the lone star looking glass on Pinterest already, then hop to it friends! In addition to everyday outfit inspiration, I’m always constantly pinning my favorite recipes, travel destinations & home decor inspo. Come join in on the fun!

And as always, thanks for stopping by the blog!
