Bold Blue Coat

Houston fashion blogger shares winter style outfit inspiration in a JOA blue coat with a black zac posen handbag.

I’ve probably worn a winter coat two times, maybe three, so far this year. Houston, you sure are confusing. Can’t even believe the high today is in the 80s! The outfit I’m sharing in this post was one of my favorite pregnancy looks. I loved that this big roomy coat fit over my baby bump. Paired with skinny jeans & ankle boots I felt oh-so-chic!

I’m sharing details on this wintery look today & why sometimes renting winter pieces make the most sense when you live in a warmer climate. Plus, I’m giving a little update on life with Annie below!

This beautiful blue coat is actually a Rent the Runway find. We had a much chillier than usual week in Houston about a month ago and I had a few events to attend, so I figured why not rent something that was cute & sure to fit. I think most of my big coats are still packed away in the attic from last winter. Like I said, we really don’t get much of an opportunity to pull out our winter favorites down here.

To make the coat stand out, I paired it with all black accessories, dark jeans and a simple white blouse. I pretty much LIVED in these black ankle booties before I decided to give heels a bit of a break towards the end of my pregnancy. Flash forward to now, I’m so so excited to start wearing some of my favorite heels again! My shoe collection might as well consist of all brand new pretties, because it’s been so long since I’ve worn most of them that my shoes feel just as new to me as they did the day I bought them! Crossing my fingers they all still fit! Apparently, your feet grow a half size or two during pregnancy. (My worst fear!!!)

Shop the Look

Outside the blog, we’ve been laying pretty low for the past two weeks. I’m still recovering from my c-section & the infection, but I’m finally starting to feel like my old self and it’s amazing!! (I can now carry Annie around the house & get up and grab things from the fridge! Woo! It’s the little things yall.) My mom also just got back in town and we have one more week of family helping us out before Patrick and I are officially on our own.

My book club also started a meal train for us and friends have been dropping by every other day bringing the most delicious of casseroles and tasty treats. I’ve never been on the receiving end of something like this before and I can’t tell you how grateful we have been for these extra meals! Newborns are just as exhausting as everyone says they are, which is something I did not want to believe while I was pregnant. So having one less thing to do during the day and a delicious dinner prepped & ready for us has made such a big difference! I now can’t wait to return the favor and make dinners for all of my expecting friends soon!

I seriously have so so much to share about life with Annie and what these past two weeks have been like. Be on the lookout this week for a few posts giving you a glimpse into just that! And as always, thanks for stopping by the blog!
