Off-the-Shoulder Stripes

Today’s post is all about a dress! Like I mentioned in last week’s style post, I’ve been living in flowy tops and tunics lately. They’re easy & comfortable for a new mom. Dresses for that matter can be quite tricky. All except for this one! & I’m telling you why below!

After you have a baby, it takes some time but soon you’ll finally be able to fit into the clothes you loved before you were pregnant. & oh it is such a good feeling to finallllllly zip up those jeans! Wearing a fit & flare dress for the first time in what feels like forever feels pretty great too!

One thing I wasn’t really aware of or expecting was to still be so restricted with the clothes that I wear even though I’m “starting” to get my pre-pregnancy body back. Why am I so restricted, you ask? Breastfeeding. 8-10 times during the day I’m required to have easy access “to a certain area” to feed my child. And boy does that come with its challenges! For someone who used to live in dresses, realizing that you have to almost completely take all your clothes off to feed your baby was quite the funny shock.

Makes sense now that this outfit from last week’s style post has become my new uniform ha. But I’m not one to give up on dresses so easily! Apart from wearing them every chance I get when know I won’t need to be “undressing” – happy hour with the girls, a blog event or a date night – I’m convinced to make them work!

Shop the Look:

It wasn’t until last week when a light bulb went off in my head. Enter this striped off the shoulder dress. Not only is it ADORABLE, but it is also the answer to all of my “wanting to wear a cute dress but also breastfeeding so I can’t” problems. It’s off the shoulder AND buttons down at the same time. Couldn’t be easier to take care of Annie while being all dolled up at the same time. {Comes in at a pretty great price point too!} Now I’m like, gimme all the off the shoulder dresses!

I wore this number to a crawfish this past weekend and it’s also at the top of my suitcase for my New Orleans trip this weekend. I have a feeling y’all will be seeing it ALOT! Oh and one last thing, this striped number is only $110! From a girl who can’t get enough Anthro dresses, I feel like this one from Nordstrom has the same look & feel but comes in at a much better price point too.

So new moms out there, were there outfits or pieces of clothing that you struggled with during your first year? Did you prefer to wear nursing “friendly” clothes or try to make what you had in your closet work? Would love to pick yall’s brains!!

And as always, thank you guys for stopping by the blog! I’ll be in New Orleans with my mom & Annie this week so be sure to follow along and see what navigating a new city is like with a newborn. Should be a fun {& interesting!}
