Well, today certainly went a bit different than planned! I woke up bright and early to get a little blog work in before I was set to meet some girlfriends for a coffee + museum date. Before I checked my email for the day, I checked the weather. What was once Tropical Storm Harvey is now Hurricane Harvey and it’s headed straight for the Texas Coast. After a lot of back and forth and finally making a decision, Patrick, Annie, the pups & I are headed north to Mississippi to ride out the storm in safety with our out-of-town family. What a day!!

With a seven hour drive ahead of us, I thought why not crank out this blog post and lighten the mood with a cute outfit? (Plus blogging/writing is totally taking my mind off of freaking out about leaving our home behind with mother nature’s fate upon it.) So instead, I’m chatting all about why this denim midi skirt is a great wear now & later piece. Plus I’m also sharing a bit more on our plans for the week and how we’re planning on handling Harvey. Quite the juxtaposition!

So in the midst of a hurricane heading to our shores, I bring you this outfit! Chic Wish has become my weakness lately for anything trendy that makes a statement. This embroidered denim skirt and flirty crop top totally do both. I plan on mixing and matching these pieces all season long. A sweater with the skirt and maybe a maxi skirt or wrap skirt with the crop top. The possibilities are endless! For a summery look, I paired them with strappy Swedish sandals and a straw clutch. I love this cute look for casual drinks with the girls!

On a much more serious note, Texas is bracing for some serious devastation. My thoughts and prayers are definitely with Houston, Corpus Christi, and the surrounding areas today and this weekend. Having lived in Houston for four years now, the hurricane evacuation route signs have become second nature. Sure, every time I saw them I shuddered just a bit but I never actually thought a hurricane might be coming one of these days. It felt quite eerie driving past them today, when we were, in fact, evacuating the city.

Most of my friends are planning on stocking up on water & perishables and hunkering down this weekend. While we debating on doing the same thing, we ultimately decided to head out for several reasons. 1. Losing power, and especially AC, with a 7-month old baby in the middle of a Texas summer did not sound ideal. 2. Our neighborhood is really prone to flooding. Sometimes just regular ol’ thunder storms will flood the streets surrounding our home and trapping us inside for the day. We did not want to risk being stranded without power for who knows how long. I’m soooo thankful that our family lives close enough away that we could just hop on over and ride it out.

I’ll definitely be stalking the news to try to see what’s going on back home over the weekend & thinking about all of my friends in Texas. Y’all stay safe!!
