After an unexpected week long trip to Mississippi followed by Labor Day Weekend, I seriously feel like I have no idea what day it is! I mean, I know it is Tuesday but this gal is all sorts of confused. There’s a new look into today’s post along with a little life update. Chatting about our experience post/Harvey plus also sharing how I’m prepping for my trip to NYC for fashion week. Ramblings on that and this look below!

An Update on Life After Harvey

We headed back to Houston Sunday night and were more thankful than ever to see our home just as we had left it. Just four streets north of us, homes that had been flooded were completely gutted. On my way to run errands yesterday, I passed street after street of destroyed homes with ruined possessions sitting out on their lawns. It was so tragic to see – but also amazing to see all of the volunteers out and about helping their neighbors.

I really can’t imagine what it must have felt like for all of those homeowners to be evacuated amidst the raging floodwaters. I’m not going to lie, the not-knowing and stress I felt when we were in Mississippi, while stalking the HoustonFlood twitter feed, I was pretty much a basket case. We were seeing reports of our neighborhood going underwater and being so far away we spent several nights not knowing if our home was going under water too. Thank goodness we had neighbors who checked in every so often to reassure us. Even though our house ended up being okay, I am SO glad we evacuated. If I was so worried and stressed in the comfort of my in-laws home, I can NOT imagine what I would have gone through mentally in my own home, with the water rising just yards away. All of those in Houston who were affected have my deepest sympathy as well as my thoughts & prayers. There are still ways to help those who’ve been devasted by Harvey. Check out this post & this post for more info.

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, it feels so strange to get back to “normal.” I’m heading to New York Fashion Week tomorrow, and in the light of recent events galavanting off to the big apple to play dress up seems so trivial. But alas, we’ve had this trip planned for months and we’re still going to go and make the most of it. I plan on returning to Houston ready to hit the ground running and help it anywhere I can.

While I thought I would have weeks to prep the perfect street style looks for fashion week, the whole hurricane evacuation thing put a wrench in those plans. (Not a complaint whatsoever, because that would be silly at a time like this!) A few things I ordered for the trip are scattered at UPS points across the country. So instead of wearing what I was originally planning, I’ll be curating my looks from pieces already in my closet. And I am just so thankful to still have my closet, you guys!!

One thing that will make the trip with me is this tiered floral dress from Eliza J. I absoltuely love their pretty & feminine dresses! This one is a great transitional piece from summer into fall. How cute would it be paired with a denim jacket and booties!? (I styled it for summer with pink heels & a bright blue Henri Bendel bag) While I’m in New York, I have the exciting opportunity to stop by the Eliza J showroom and visit with the team behind these pretty dresses. Thrilled is an absolute understatement!

Since Annie is coming along with me, the two of us have SO SO much packing to do! We’re going to be halfway to NYC by this time tomorrow, so I better get a move on with the packing. Be sure to follow along on instagram & insta-stories to see what I’m up to! And as always, thanks for stopping by the blog!
