Big Apple Red & Renting the Runway

Alice Temperley Coral Berry Lace Cocktail Dress styled on the streets of New York for NYFW.

For my a night out in The Big Apple, you can’t go wrong with a bright red dress. I’ve been the biggest fan of Rent the Runway for years now. I used to subscribe to their unlimited program before I had Annie and I thought it was the bee’s knees! It wasn’t until I went to their flagship store in NYC that I realized how truly amazing Rent the Runway can be, especially if you live in New York!

I’m chatting below about this look and what the occasion was that called for a fancy red party dress. I’m also sharing why I love to rent the runway when I travel. Plus, if you live in or are visiting New York anytime soon renting with RTR is even easier!

Like I mentioned above, I’ve been using Rent the Runway for years. Not only for special occasion dresses but for vacations too. For our California trip last year, I rented several pieces that were perfect for Cali and looked oh-so-cute in our vacation photographs. Not only can you rent party dresses, but casual clothes are on the table too! When I travel, I’ll have my looks shipped to the hotel I’m staying in and it is one less bag to pack. Plus, who doesn’t snap a bajilion photos while on vacation? This way you can wear something fresh & new and it will be forever yours in your photographs.

Anywho, instead of having my dresses shipped to my hotel in NYC like I typically do whenever I use RTR, I decided to pick them up from their store in SOHO. Not going to lie, I kind of thought I was headed towards a shipping office of some sort. I was completely floored when I walked into the gorgeous boutique. Filled with white cabinets and closets, it showcased all of the dreamy dresses and accessories I had spotted on their site just days before.

My black bag with my goodies was waiting right in front for me. I tried everything on in the store to make sure they all fit too. I even opted to switch out one of the handbags I rented for this roomy leather jacket. It was much cooler in New York than this Texan was expecting! There were so many girls popping in that Friday morning. I couldn’t help but overhear their conversations with the employees. They were all chitchatting about the events they were headed to that evening or the weekend trips they were taking and the dresses that they couldn’t live without.

Most of the girls seemed to be using the unlimited program. With this, you pay about $150 a month and can have unlimited rentals, you just get 3 out at a time. It was great in Houston, but taking into account shipping you go some days without any rentals at all. These NYC gals were able to just pop in and exchange one outfit for another on the spot. I couldn’t get over it!! Crossing my fingers a Rent the Runway boutique makes its way to Houston & soon!

On another note, this outfit! This red dress is by Alice Temperley, a designer who I’ve absolutely looooved since Kate Middleton wore one of her dresses years & years ago. While her thousands of dollar price tag is not really in my budget, luckily the rental price was. This red lace off the shoulder dress was such a dream to wear. (It was hard to convince myself to take it off at the end of the night!) I paired it with a black bag & kitten heels (because I wasn’t so sure about how my feet were going to handle all of the walking in NYC.)

I wore this dress to a rooftop happy hour with all of my Houston gals followed by the Style Collective blogger get together last Friday during Fashion Week. It was seriously SO much fun to connect with so many new bloggers, insta-friends & my Houston gals all in one night. We had such a blast! Sharing some snaps below. Oh in case you love this dress just as much as I do, I linked a few similar styles that are at a price range worth keeping in your closet too. 😉

And as always, thanks for stopping by the blog!
