“Every Year The  Women Of New York leave the past behind and look forward to the future. This is known as FASHION WEEK.” – Carrie Bradshaw a la Sex And The City.

Not going to lie, that little quote of Carrie’s popped in my head one or two times while I was in New York last week. Every time I would hear Carrie’s voice saying it, I almost wanted to pinch myself to prove that I was really there. Me, little old Alice Kerley from Houston, sitting in an actual SEAT to watch a runway show at New York Fashion Week. I’m still in the “was this trip really real … how did this all actually happen?” phase.

If it wasn’t for all of the other bloggers that paved the way (and shared their knowledge with me) I would never have made the trip. So for them, I am truly thankful! And for my mom too. So so so thankful. She flew up with me and babysit Annie the entire time! Major props to her for navigating NYC with a seven-month-old while I played dress up in SOHO. (Love ya mom!)

Today I’m chatting about several things: this outfit and what it was like to walk into my first runway show at New York Fashion Week.

First things first, this dress. Another Chicwish favorite! (I mean for this price point, you really can’t go wrong.) As soon as it came in the mail I knew it had to make the trip to New York with me. I feel like embroidery is my “thing” and now that it’s trending, I couldn’t imagine not wearing it to NYFW. Fashionistas tend to go the edgier route on the streets of NYC. While I’m not the edgiest person alive, I did want to go out of my comfort zone just a bit and try a few new trends. So I paired this feminine frock with statement silver booties to give it more of a “street style” look. These booties are from Seychelles, one of my favorite shoe brands, and can instantly transform an outfit. The silver shade is very on trend while also something unexpected & new. I’ll be wearing these all fall long!

I paired this look with a blue structured bag and mod cat-eye sunnies. It was the perfect outfit for my first day in New York. All that’s missing from my look was a leather jacket. Because let me tell ya, it was chilly that first day!! This Texas gal landed to temperatures in the upper 50s and was totally not prepared.  Thanks to the Rent the Runway boutique for having a  showroom of fabulous jackets just a few blocks away!

NYFW: Day 1

I landed in the early afternoon on my first day in the city. We cabbed from the airport to our hotel in SOHO and immediately set out for the day. As I mentioned, my mom and Annie came along on the trip. They literally went everywhere with me that they were able to go. I’ll definitely have a post up soon chatting all about what it was like to travel to NYC (& fashion week) with a baby, but until then I’ll share some highlights. My first show that day was Pamella Roland at Chelsea Piers. Walking into my first NYFW runway show was so surreal. I mean the other girls strutting their stuff left and right and the paparazzi on every street corner was enough to intimidate me for sure. Holding my head high, I skipped along into my show, not knowing a soul .. or what to expect.

Pamella Roland SS18 Spring 2018 Show at New York Fashion Week

I walked in and what do you know immediately made friends with a few bloggers standing nearby. It’s funny how easy it is to stop other bloggers at fashion week. We chit-chatted while watching all the style setters take their seats. Celebs in the audience were Aly Raisman, of gymnastics fame, and the entire cast of America’s Next Top Model (sans Tyra.) Honestly, I was totally geeking out!! It was so funny to see these people in person because I was like “wait a second … I know you! Did I go to middle school with you or something!? … oh no wait you are an OLYMPIAN!!”

After everyone took their seats Pamella Roland’s show began. It was just as you would expect, gorgeous and thin models, loud music that sets the mood and stunning dresses shining on the catwalk. With so many different shades of pink, sequins and silk designs I was swooning. One thing is for sure, pink is going to be pretty big next season. The girly color was spotted on almost every runway at NYFW.

Stay tuned for more details from my trip, outfits (of course) and a behind the scenes look into what it actually takes to attend NYFW as a blogger. (There’s a lot more hustle that goes into it than you’d ever imagine!) Anywho, as always, thanks for stopping by the blog and following along my latest adventure!
