Looking Pulled Together in a Pinch

I’m not going to lie, some days are much harder than others to look all “pulled together” when I’m leaving the house. If I can time it right, I get ready for my day either before Annie wakes up or during her morning nap, around 8:30 am.  There are definitely a few ways I try to look pulled together in a pinch (because really, that’s all the time I have) and I’m sharing them below!

Switching Things Up

I’m almost always in jeans and either a comfortable blouse or sweater these days, due to lots of activities on the floor. It’s almost rare that I’ll wear a dress during the day at home when dresses are what I used to live in. I find that when I do opt for something out of my ordinary, I feel that much more put together when leaving the house. So naturally, I’m thrilled to have stumbled upon the brand Sonnet James which designs dresses in mind for the playful mother. This striped dress of mine is great for a busy day and is machine washable too. Lone Star Looking Glass readers can use the code Alice15 for 15% off their Sonnet James purchase for the next 3 days!

Accessorize & Accessorize

My favorite style tip I ever received was to wear no less than 3-pieces when leaving your house. So say you have on a dress & heels, well you’ve just got to add one more piece to your look or it’s incomplete! Whether it be a scarf, a bracelet or a jacket, accessorizing is key to taking an outfit to the next level. I paired my striped dress with this faux fur Eliza J jacket to step up my look. It’s softer than you guys can ever imagine!

Pack a Purse that Stands Out & Gets the Job Done

I’m all for a stylish handbag. I usually put Annie’s diaper bag in the bottom of her stroller and carry a chic crossbody on myself with all of my necessities. Hammitt’s new VIP Clutch is one of my favorites! It has detachable straps and can convert into a crossbody + there is a cell phone pocket at the top which makes grabbing my phone one-handed all the easier. I also love that this clutch is SO roomy. It can even hold my camera (& a few baby toys) if I need it to.

& Last But Not Least: Dry Shampoo & a Dot of MakeUp

On the days in between showers, dry shampoo is my best best friend. I will usually brush out my hair, spray a bit here & there then curl it really quick with my curling wand. I’ve also convinced myself that dry shampoo makes curling my hair faster. Not sure if this is true, but it seems to really help my hair hold their waves & last all day. My favorite brands are Marc Anthony (bc it smells like the beach!) Batiste & Amika.

I also don’t leave the house without at least a bit of concealer on under my eyes. Those sleepless nights still plague us over here! Next, I’ll swipe a sweep of blush on my cheeks and add mascara. I typically put on quite a bit more, but if I don’t have the time I never leave the house without concealer, blush & mascara. Without the three, I’d probably look like I’m still asleep! 😉
