Lakeway Resort & Spa Review

I seem to always have a case of wanderlust. But jetting off to the next destination doesn’t always require a plane ticket. Last month, we spent the weekend at Lakeway Resort & Spa on Lake Travis just outside of Austin. With only a 3-hour drive from Houston, we arrived at our destination just in time for dinnertime!

I’m sharing a recap of our stay and a review of beautiful Lakeway on the blog today. If you live in Texas (hey, even if you don’t!) you are going to want to check out this family-friendly resort. We seriously had the best best time! More below …

With beautiful views and more amenities than you can imagine, this Hill-Country resort is a complete escape. Lakeway offers both adventure, relaxation, and leisure for the entire family. Whether you want to spend the day poolside, at the spa or speeding along the lake in a jet ski, there is so much to do and see in this little slice of Texas paradise.

The Rooms.

My number one tip for those booking a stay at Lakeway is to reserve a room with a balcony & lake view. Especially if you’re traveling with children! Each night, we would put Annie down to bed in her crib, close the curtains and spend the rest of the evening watching the stars from our balcony. We’d open up a bottle of wine and have grown up time and it was just so special.

Our first night, there happened to be a band playing at the marina across the lake. We could hear every word from the songs they were singing in such clarity that it felt like we were in the audience too!

Breakfast alfresco with a view of the lake (and the deer roaming below) was just another reason why we loved having the balcony room! We ordered pancakes and the migas tacos and shared the two between the three of us. I can’t help but want something savory & sweet in the mornings and these were both oh-so-delicious.

The Pools.

We visited Lakeway in early spring where the morning temperatures weren’t quite warm enough just yet for your typical pool weather. Luckily for us, three out of Lakeway’s four pools are heated!

Annie was definitely living her best life in her pink flamingo pool float!

After a day of fun in the sun, I whisked myself away for a signature massage at Lakeway’s spa. (It was beyond luxurious and had me completely relaxed by the time it was over.)

Patrick and Annie played together in the Kid Zone for a bit. And then she settled down for a nap so he could enjoy some Final Four TV-action up in our room. But let me tell y’all about the Kid Zone!! It is UNREAL. There are so many toys for kids of all ages including bounce houses, mini golf, air hockey and jumbo slides. Kids ages 3 and up can even be dropped off for a short period of time while their parents enjoy themselves at the resort. They even offer popcorn & movies each evening!

Our little family got all dressed up for dinner at TR Restaurant and Lounge – the restaurant on the property. Roller Rabbit is one of my favorite brands to shop for resort-style pieces. Not only for me but for Annie too! This maxi dress is from their spring collection and I love the flowy feel to it. I paired it with a statement necklace to dress it up and it was the perfect look for our evening out.

The Restaurant.

With a delicious menu and beautiful ambiance, TR Restaurant had an upscale “fancy” feel to it but it was also incredibly kid-friendly too. Annie had crayons and a coloring book to keep her occupied and entertained throughout the meal.

One of my favorite things about our stay at Lakeway was how family-friendly the entire resort was. This was our first time to stay at a resort that heavily catered to the needs of little ones and I was blown away! (We’ve stayed at family friendly places when Annie was in infant, but now that she’s a toddler we can really tell the difference.)

Our dinner was absolutely diiiivine! We started with tuna tartar tacos and followed it up with redfish and filet. Yum!

The view wasn’t too bad either. 😉 I would definitely suggest making a dinner reservation during sunset. There’s nothing like watching the sunset over Lake Travis on a beautiful night like this one.

Before heading out on Sunday, we made sure to grab breakfast tacos and coffee. (Probably my favorite breakfast combination of all … if I had to choose!) The grab and go breakfast is available at the bar just a staircase below the lobby. Guests can sip on their morning beverages while enjoying the view from the rocking chairs lining the bar’s large patio.

Lakeway Marina Lake Travis Austin

The Marina.

One thing we didn’t have time to fit in, which I so wish we did, was rent a pontoon boat from the adjacent Lakeway Marina. We were able to pop down there to explore the piers, check out the boats and visit the marina boutique (which was adorable by the way) before we headed out for Houston. Next time we will definitely have to head out on the lake and explore!

A huge thank you to Lakeway Resort & Spa for our wonderful stay! Traveling with a toddler can be challenging at times but it was a breeze this trip and I think that majorly had to to do with the laid back and family-friendly environment that Lakeway offers its guests. I know we will be back again … and soon!
