It’s mid-July in Houston, so why am I wearing a chunky knit sweater with my outfit? Well, if you’ve ever visited Houston, Texas … then you know it is freeeezing cold inside most places. (Houstonians sure do love their AC!) I can’t even go in to the grocery store without pants and a sweatshirt on!
Today I’m talking about fall transitional pieces with J. McLaughlin and why they’re necessary … even in Houston!
While this look is perfect for transitioning from 100 degrees to 50 degrees in a matter of 5 seconds, it also works as a great fall transitional outfit.
Wear the sweater now, wrapped around your waist, and wear it later, when the temperature really starts to drop, over your dress.
So many cute chunky knits from J. McLaughlin!
I also love that the colors in the blue plaid shirtdress are perfect for both summer and fall. The darker shades are just begging to be paired with tall boots and leggings come October.
But for now, a matching navy beach tote and sunglasses dress this shirtdress up for summer!

Are you daydreaming about cooler weather and fall outfits too? I have to admit, I am totally ready for the spoils of the next season ahead, but for now I’m perfectly content soaking up the remainder of summer. (It did barely just begin, after all!)
In other news, Patrick and I are meeting friends tonight for dinner at our favorite spot in all of H-town: El Tiempo!! Apparently, when my mom was pregnant with me, she ate Mexican food ALL the time, which obviously explains why I love it too, right? Well, Baby Kerley is just going to have to love Mexican food just as much as I do, so why not start getting the little one’s fix now!? 😛
As always, thanks for stopping by the blog! Don’t forget to follow along on Instagram & Snapchat for a look at life behind the blog.
