What does
Daisy Sour Cream, books, white elephants & chili have in common? My book club’s December meet up at my place!
I always love having friends over, any time of the year, but I especially love it when we all get together during the holidays. From the holiday decor to the hearty cold-weather dishes, entertaining during this time of year feels extra special.
When we meet up for book club during the week, we’re all coming from our offices all across Houston, so needless to say, we come hungry! That’s why we have started a tradition of taking turns hosting dinner at each meeting.
I was so excited to host our December meet up and serve one of my all time favorite recipes: Texas Corn Chip Chili! (With all of my favorite toppings naturally, especially the new
Daisy Squeeze Sour Cream … but more on this in a bit!)
:
As the ladies arrived, they were greeted with wine & apple cider champagne cocktails.
I’ll take any excuse to bring out festive party glasses & whip up a fun cocktail!
We usually jump into dinner first thing, because we’re almost always more excited about the food than the actual book discussion. π
I dressed my tablescape up for the holidays by filling one of my favorite vases with red carnations and adding both miniature Christmas trees and a red plaid table runner.
One of the main attractions on the table was the big simmering pot of chili. My recipe for Texas Corn Chip Chili is adapted from a family chili recipe & the corn chip chili dinners my husband and I used to eat while watching football games back in college.
We combined the two recipes and decided to add the word “Texas” to the title when we first moved here and found ourselves making this chili all the time.
If I’m being honest, one of the reasons why I love this chili recipe so much is because topping it off is half the fun!
With sour cream, corn chips, cheese & chives, we all “decorated” our chili bowls with the flavors that we love the most.
The real winner of the evening was the new Daisy Squeeze Sour Cream! I could put sour cream on EVERYTHING so I couldn’t wait to share one of my new found favorite foodie must-haves with my book club.
It’s so easy to use, just a squeeze and you’ve got a dollop of Daisy!
Or several more intricate squeezes, and you have yourself a happy face. π
What would you design with a “squeezable” dollop of Daisy?
Over dinner we chatted about our book, but the conversation mostly stemmed around everyone gushing over this Texas Corn Chip Chili Recipe!
Which I was so happy to share! π
If all of this food-talk is making any of you all hungry (as it should), I’ve shared my all time favorite chili recipe below.
Contrary to popular belief, some book
clubs do actually talk about the books they pick when they get together.
Believe it or not … I’m in two book clubs! How I find the time
to read two books is anybodyβs guess, but it’s safe to say that I’m a bit of a
“book nerd.” π
One of my book clubs likes to get nitty gritty with prepared
discussion questions & even vocabulary trivia from the selected books we
read.
The other one, we mostly talk about just the major plot points,
then we spend the majority of the evening picking out our next book. With all
of us having different tastes & preferences, this conversation is usually
the most fun!
We wrapped up the night with a game of White Elephant, our Christmas book club tradition, and each girl was also sent home with a handwritten copy of my Texas Corn Chip Chili Recipe.
