New Year Style & Resolutions

Happy 2016, y’all!
Hope you all had a fab-u-lous New Year’s Eve! Today I’m talking all about what we did for NYE, my resolutions for 2016 (that are great for anyone in their 20s!) and a bit about why I never ever want the midi-skirt & crop top trend to go out of style.

While this cute little two-piece number would have been perfect for Thursday night, I’m being honest when I tell you that I spent New Year’s Eve on the couch watching a Peter Pan movie while wearing my pajamas.

After two loooong football games, it was my turn to pick what to watch! (I’m a sucker for sci-fi/fantasy … can’t help it!) We set a timer for midnight and changed the channel to countdown & toast 2016 with the rest of the country.  After a hug & a kiss from my sweetie, back to the movie it was!
Super glamorous right? After traveling like crazy over the Christmas holiday, we were thrilled to have a super relaxing long weekend at home, just the two of us. (Four if you include our two golden girls!)

While this look may be more on the casual side for the dressiest night of the year, it’s simple enough that it can be worn to more occasions than a big night out.

(I even wore it recently to Houston’s Blog Societies brunch. Check out Jaclyn’s fun post about it for more!)

I’ve rocked the midi-skirt crop top trend here, here, here, here, & here.  That is a lot of heres! Needless to say, I’m totally on board & hope the trend never goes out of style.
All the good things seem to do so eventually. But I’ll hang on to this one as long as I can.  I think why I like combining crop tops & midi-skirts so much is because of the juxtaposition (big word) between classy & scandalous. Crop tops are the utmost of scandalous if you think about it! But when paired with a midi-skirt, you’re only showing off half an inch of your waist – which seems hardly dangerous to me.

This black one from Flora + Mia is my go-to!

This crop top was one I saw at Topshop several months ago.  The price tag for such a tiny shirt was not very appealing.  Luckily I popped in over the holidays and it was drastically marked down & … just waiting for me. (so I like to think) Don’t you just love it when that happens?  As it’s now sold out, I’ve linked a few similar styles below if you’re hankering to style this trend too!

With such a busy print in the top, I opted for a simple black clutch (& neutral but sparkly jewels) to complete the look.

If I did actually go out for NYE you better believe I would have worn these heels! Because then I would have been able to dance well past midnight without my feet bothering me. 🙂

Remember above when I mentioned I was going to talk about some resolutions for 2016? Well here I am, talking new year’s resolutions!

The google dictionary definition of a resolution is “a firm decision to do – or not to do something.” While most resolutions aren’t very “firm,” (the whole go-to the gym thing usually lasts only 2 months for me!) I’m hoping that I stay firm to the resolutions I’m sharing below!

1. Travel.

  • I say this pretty much every single year.  If you read my travel guide page up above, you’ll see that I’m either insanely passionate or freakishly obsessed about traveling as much as I possibly can. Traveling, exploring new places and opening yourself up to new & different things is good for the soul.  I hope to feed my soul this year & travel as much as I possibly can. (Even if it’s just a 3 hour trip away!) Patrick and I have agreed that 2016 is our year to tackle as much of this glorious earth as we can! Wish us luck! (I have a knack for planning things that sometimes don’t end up happening ….. oops!)
2.  Save.
  • This is pretty much on everyone’s New Year Resolution list, right? In 2016 I’m hoping to cut out my unnecessary spending – only buying clothing items that either are versatile, gorgeous (and) makes me feel gorgeous, or are absolutely necessary/needs. I was also pretty good at the whole avoiding Starbucks “unless I was in absolute desperation” thing last year.  I can probably count on my fingers & toes the amount of times I actually went in 2015! Score! We’re also hoping to cut down on our guilty pleasure of going out to eat all the time. (Sorry Torchy’s Tacos!) Gotta save for all those fabulous trips I plan on taking! – What tips & tricks do you guys have to save $$ here & there?
3. Eat Healthy … er.
  • Another common resolution.  I’m going to try as hard as I possibly can to avoid the chips & crackers section of the grocery store this year. Those two aisles are my ultimate weakness!! It’s funny because when I don’t have snacks around – I don’t miss them. But when they ARE around I can’t stop.
So those are my big resolutions for 2016! I don’t expect to travel the globe, to have kicked my going out to eat & shopping habits to the curb, or to have re-vamped my diet but I am certainly going to try to put a dent in all of these things!
Do you have a New Year’s Resolution this year too?  If so, I’d love to hear! Let’s tackle them together!
