Bluebonnets are synonymous with springtime in Texas.

These bright blue flowers dot the countryside of the Lone Star State and Texans (& tourists alike) flock to see & snap their own photos of these pretty flowers each year. It’s a quintessential Texas experience.  (As is snapping a photo of yourself in the field too!)

Today I’m sharing the best place to see and snap bluebonnets in Texas. An hour long road trip isn’t complete without a stop for lunch, a bit of shopping & a whole lot of ice cream right? I’m also sharing highlights of our day trip to Brenham, right in the heart of the land of bluebonnets in Texas.

Where to Find Bluebonnets in Texas

Grab your camera and put on your prettiest dress because rolling fields of hundreds of thousands of bluebonnets await you just an hour north of Houston. You can find this field off of HWY 290 next to the parking lot of First Baptist Church Chappel Hill. Going north, once you pass the Chappell Hill Bakery, keep your eyes peeled to the right of the road. You can’t miss it! Here’s an exact address for those GPSers: 7675 Farm to Market 2447, Chappell Hill, TX 77426.

A Day Trip in Brenham: the Best Things to Do and See

My friend Brittany and her little girl headed up to Brenham with me and honestly we had no idea where the bluebonnets were! We only knew they were somewhere in between Chappel Hill in Brenham. After popping into antique stores & asking for directions, followed by a few u-turns, we finally stumbled upon the holy grail of blue flowers.

We both snapped each other’s photos in the fields with our little ones, creating snapshots that each of us will cherish for years to come!

Stop at Must Be Heaven for Lunch in Brenham:

After an hour long drive and an excursion in the bluebonnet fields, you’re going to get hungry. According to the locals, Must Be Heaven is the best lunch spot in Brenham. Naturally, we had to check out it out for ourselves. This old fashioned Sandwich Shoppe serves soda pop, an array of pies and even has a salad bar with all the fixings. When every sandwich comes with a pickle & peppermint on the side, you know it’s going to be good!

Browse the Shops in Brenham

Downtown Brenham has all of the charms that you would expect from small-town America. A gazebo in the middle of the town square, precious boutiques and antique shops lining the streets, and plenty of park benches to sit on  & watch the world pass by. We strolled our strollers in and out of jewelry shops, antique stores and even clothing boutiques that would rival some of those in Houston. Sassafras & Canyon Chic were some of our favorites!

Finish it Off with a Scoop of Blue Bell

Blue Bell, a Texas ice cream institution, is headquartered right outside of Brenham. While they don’t offer tours anymore, you can still visit their visitor center & head on up to the ice cream parlor for as much ice cream as you want. And at only $1 a scoop, it’s totally worth the brain freeze! I must be old school because my favorite flavor will always be French Vanilla. Along with the more traditional flavors, Blue Bell also serves up Sea Salt Caramel, Birthday Cake, & Chocolate Almond Marshmallow. Be sure to come hungry!

Now that I’m working from home and have more free time during the week, I’ve kind of made it my mission to incorporate more day trips similar to this one into my life.

Good thing my friend Brittany and her little one are totally on board! Click here now to find the best things to do in Galveston, TX
