Things to Do on South Padre Island:
I recently had a really big *pinch me* moment and I am so excited to share more about it with y’all today! Last month, I received an amazing opportunity to head down to experience South Padre Island for the first time and share my take on Texas’ Best Beach with Texas Monthly magazine! I’ve been picking up copies of Texas Monthly since we very first moved to the lone star state … so it’s like all of my wildest dreams came true when the opportunity arose to create a Texas Travel Feature for them. “Pinch me, pinch me, pinch me!”
You can read my feature on things to do on South Padre Island HERE where you’ll find a curated round-up on the best things to see, do, taste and experience on this Texas island.
There is so much more to SPI (as the locals like to call it) than a sandy beach. From sea kayaking, paddleboarding to hang gliding and horseback riding – there is no shortage of adventurous activities. I was also blown away by all of the delicious food and festive restaurants scattered about the island. You’ll find all the details on that & more in the Texas Monthly feature.

And as a little bit of a side note, I want to share with y’all how I typically plan my travels to create my guides for Lone Star Looking Glass. Prior to any trip, I’ll typically spend hours researching the many different things to do, see and eat in each destination. I always love using Instagram too to dig deep and find those places that might not be listed on more popular travel guides. For this trip to SPI, I chatted with locals and Texans who visit year after year – I even received recommendations from the tourism board too.
But one of my favorite things about being a blogger is being able to crowd-source you all for different recommendations on the places I plan to visit. I know that a lot of you all live in Texas and you guys filled my inbox with so many fabulous SPI recs! I looked into each & every one of them and visited the spots that piqued my interest the most. Be sure to head on over to my Texas Monthly article and let me know what you think in the comments below!
