My New York Fashion Week “Street Style”

SHOP MY NYFW OUTFIT:

I would have to say the best part about attending New York Fashion Week is seeing what everyone else wears while watching the runway shows. It’s not all about the clothes that the models wear while walking down runways anymore. The NYFW fashionistas’ street style has set many a trend all on their own.

This was my second year attending and I definitely felt more comfortable and confident not only in myself but my style choices this go-round. I’m not saying that I am a trendsetter or anything, I purely just wear what I love and have fun while doing it. But when it comes to attending NYFW, I find I step a little bit out of my comfort zone and try things that may be just a bit too bold or risky to do every day here in Houston.

So without further ado, I’m rounding up each and every look I sported for my recent New York Fashion Week getaway in the Big Apple. Some of the looks were a bit more fashion-forward, some purely just for warmth (hello winter in NYC!) and some outfits I picked out just for fun. My suitcase was bursting at the seams and the proof is below!

What I Wore at NYFW: NYFW Runway Shows

I have a lot of favorite outfits, I’ve discovered. It must be that I find it pretty easy to fall in love with clothing. That’s for sure! I’ve shared this white bohemian dress by Spell a time or two on here already. It reigns supreme as my #1 garment in my closet right now so it’s no surprise it made its way to the streets of NYC for fashion week.

A lightweight white sundress doesn’t really make the most sense for February in The Big Apple. So, I styled it for the season with a vintage leopard coat from Cheeky Vintage, my classic black Lucchese cowboy boots (gotta rep TX!) and cinched the waist with a Western-style black belt. My chic vintage coat kept me warm and my boots were lined with thick socks and ready for walking. My legs might have been a bit cold (okay VERY cold) but since I was in and out of the shows pretty quickly I forced myself to briefly ignore the feeling … for the sake of fashion!

What I loved most about this outfit was that it just felt very “me.” I wasn’t trying to dress a certain way to fit in with any specific group or trend. I simply combined a few pieces I loved most which resulted in a feeling of complete confidence. It’s truly wild how feeling great about how you’re presenting yourself can fully affect your mood and attitude!

What I Wore at NYFW: Brunch + Meetings Around Town

My second day in New York was filled with meetings, meetings, and more meetings. Someone asked me, “What kind of meetings does one do during fashion week anyway!?” Hundreds of PR firms and notable brand headquarters’ offices line the skyline of New York City. A visit to The Big Apple gives bloggers sometimes their first opportunities to connect with representatives from these businesses face to face. It’s often a nice change to meet someone in person you’ve been emailing for several years for coffee too. I used my extra day in New York to connect with a few business partners as well as pop into showrooms of different labels and designers to meet their teams in person.

With the chilly February weather and a lot of walking on my plate, I opted for comfortable waterproof booties and a heavy plaid coat. I topped my coat with a fur collar from Ann Mashburn and wore a lace blouse underneath.

What I Wore at NYFW: Girl’s Night Out

A big group of about 8 of us girls went to dinner at Old Rose and I dressed for the occasion in a metallic tiered skirt and turtleneck bodysuit. A festive and bold look only fitting for girl’s night out in NYC!

What I Wore at NYFW: On the Coldest Day Yet!

My face probably says it all in this picture lol. I was absolutely FREEZING on this particular February Day in NYC. The girls and I just had brunch at The Plaza, where we dressed to the nines, of course. We then all decided to change into something warmer and do a bit of exploring in Central Park soon after. Let’s just say our exploring only lasted half an hour because this group of Texas girls just could not hang in that chilly windy New York weather!! There was one point we were almost laughing/crying – it was so so cold!

I paired a cream sweater from TopShop with an oversized plaid coat from Asos. Camping socks tucked into booties and even a hat added warmth. All that was missing was a much-needed pair of gloves!

What I Wore at NYFW: Pretty Woman on Boadway

Let me interject just a moment to share that Pretty Woman The Musical was absolutely spectacular! Please do yourself a favor and see it if you ever get the chance. So good and perfect for a night out with your girlfriends!

Speaking of which! These are the lovely ladies I spent galavanting the city with last month. From left to right, Annie, Margret & Rebekah. They each have a fabulous blog that I’m sure you’ll love following along just as much as I do.

The four of us decided to dress for the occasion and pulled out our fanciest frocks for Broadway. I rented this gorgeous embroidered Shoshanna gown from Rent the Runway and had the best time traipsing the streets of NYC in it!

What I Wore at NYFW: More Meetings

Don’t worry, I did have a coat on over this look! But to accurately photograph it, I slipped it off for a second. For another round of meetings, I paired high-waisted boyfriend jeans with a feminine ruffled top and white western booties. This simple outfit was casual enough for playing tourist but also pulled together enough for one-on-ones with PR reps.

What I Wore at NYFW: NYFW Runway Shows

For the second round of runway shows, I opted for this vintage ricrac maxi skirt from Cheeky Vintage. I paired it with a cozy TopShop sweater and thick leggings underneath. Gotta stay warm!

What I Wore at NYFW: Travel Style

To and from The Big Apple, I opted for blue jeans, a graphic tee and this fuzzy embellished faux fur jacket from Bl_nk London. If you look closely you can see the intricate beaded details that are dotted throughout. It’s such a fun addition to any outfit!

What I Wore at NYFW: Brunch at The Plaza

And last but not least, I had to pull this showstopping dress out of my closet once more for our Big Apple Brunch at The Plaza. The girls and I decided we would dress in our most festive best (sequins) for the occasion. But discovering that I didn’t actually have anything sequined … I went for the next best thing: rhinestones and embroidery. This TopShop find was something I stumbled upon to wear to a wedding earlier this fall. I’ve managed to pull it out for several occasions since and plan to do so much more!

Thank you so much for stopping by and following along with my New York City style journey! I absolutely love how travel inspires the way I dress and that new and different locations can bring about opportunities to wear pieces and create looks I might not do otherwise. Do you tend to dress a bit differently when you visit someplace new too!?
