Father’s Day is right around the corner, falling on Sunday, June 21st this year. We are celebrating Patrick this Father’s Day the best way we know how: with another camping trip! Camping has become our preferred form of travel and escapism these past few months. In our opinion, it’s the best way to get out and adventure outside of the house while still safely social distancing. Camping is also a whole lot of fun for the whole family!
In today’s post, I’m sharing a peek into our most recent camping trip and rounding up the best Father’s Day gift ideas for the outdoorsy dad in your life, all from Academy. We’ve really stepped up our camping gear game these last few years. That’s thanks to bringing along the right products to make each trip all the more comfortable, fun & enjoyable for everyone. Patrick has had a lot of input on this Father’s Day Gift Guide and I can’t wait to share his favorite finds with y’all! Head on down for a bit of outdoorsy wanderlust & the gift guide below!
Cherishing this sweet time together while we’re still a family of three!
Father’s Day Gift Ideas the Outdoorsy Dad is Sure to Love
A Tent Fit for the Whole Family
Our Coleman 6-Person Tent from Academy is the perfect size for a short weekend getaway. It comfortably sleeps 6 people & realllllly comfortably slept the three of us. It’s a great size for families & packs up quickly and compactly. There was enough room for a double air mattress for Patrick & me, space for Annie to spread out her sleeping bag and plenty of spots to store our gear & necessities without feeling the least bit cramped.
Camp Chairs to Relax & Recline In
We can’t say enough good things about these Pod Rocker Chairs! Instead of sitting by the fire on each trip, these packable chairs by GCI Outdoor let you sway back and forth to the sound of a crackling fire & the wind blowing through the trees. They’re so relaxing! Each chair comes with a side pocket to keep your drink or phone handy too.

A Sporty Shirt
Academy not only has great outdoor gear but stylish & super functional outdoor apparel too. I love the color of this teal Magellan Outdoors Men’s Buttondown on my man! Patrick described the shirt as being really lightweight and breathable – perfect for hiking too! He also brought this Buttondown Fishing Shirt from Academy along for the trip too. Both are similar silhouettes and materials but come with different prints and functionality. Each shirt is less than $25 too!
& Camp Stove for Cooking
Roasting dinner over a flaming campfire sure sounds dreamy, but is it easy? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Patrick always brings along our Coleman PerfectFlow 2 Burner Camp Stove on each & every trip. It’s compact and such a breeze to set up & quickly get to cooking. There’s even a wind-blocking shield to keep food as hot as possible. Some of our favorite recipes to whip up on our camp stove are burgers and breakfast tacos.
A Statement-Making Blade
Patrick’s Uncle Henry Golden Fixed Knife from Academy comes along on all of our camping trips. You never know when you’re going to need a knife in the great outdoors! From chopping the perfect Smore’s stick off a nearby tree to slicing onions for dinner, a knife makes such a useful tool for the outdoorsy dad. This lightweight knife has a statement-making handle and comes with a leather case for carrying.
Bold Blue Enamelware Camp Plates
These bold blue enamelware plates are our go-to’s when camping. Not only are they reusable trip after trip, but the heavily glazed enamel over steel makes these plates durable for the outdoor elements … and our toddler. We have a small storage box we keep our enamel plates, mugs, and camping silverware in so we can toss our whole collection easily in the trunk of the car when venturing out on a new trip.
Making memories in the great outdoors!
We love her smore’s and smore’s every day!
A 5 Gal. Beverage Jug
This beverage jug was a new addition to our most recent camping trip & I don’t foresee us going on another one without it! We set it up at our picnic table, filled to the brim with ice-cold water. Not only did the three of us refill our water bottles from it all weekend long, but we were also able to use it for washing dishes after cooking and filling up the percolator for our morning coffee. You never know what the local water situation is going to be like at a campsite and with this large beverage jug, we didn’t have to tote individual gallons of storebought water along with us. We were able to fill the jug at home – and were good to go all weekend long.
Cheers to this outstanding outdoorsy dad this Father’s Day!!
After our morning coffee, we slipped into our hiking gear and went for a hike around the lake at Chickasaw State Park.
There were boardwalks to cross, birds to see, swamps to step over and so much adventure to be had!
The Perfect Backpack for a Day Hike
A hiking backpack makes for a great Father’s Day gift! This outdoorsy dad ends up always being the one who totes our water bottles, snacks, camera gear & more when we head out on a hike. Now that we’re not carrying Annie on our backs anymore (she finally has the stamina to join us on the trail!) a small more manageable hiking backpack was a must. We love this Ecogear Hawskbill 30L Hiking Backpack. Patrick mentioned several times throughout the trip how lightweight it was and how impressed he was that it fit so many different things! We even threw 3 pairs of water shoes in there at one point knowing we wanted to wade into the lake. The backpack comes with a vented back, a plus for hot summer days, and a waterproof rain cover too.
I hope you enjoyed this Father’s Day Gift Ideas Roundup (and a peek into our recent trip!) Every item mentioned above is a trusted piece of our camping gear & I can’t imagine a trip without any of the above. It could be fun and thoughtful to give the dad in your life a piece of camping gear and a trip to go along with it – that way everyone can enjoy the gift!

The three of us had such a great outdoorsy escape at Chickasaw State Park a few weekends ago. It was about an hour and a half’s drive from Memphis and upon arriving there we felt like we were a world away. Our campsite didn’t have any cell service which turned out to be a blessing as opposed to a curse. The three of us had a technology-free weekend and made memories I’m sure will last a lifetime!
With our baby boy arriving this September, we decided we wanted to fit in a few more camping trips before he makes his appearance. This Father’s Day, we’re headed up to the Great Smoky Mountains, one of our favorite places in the entire world, to do a big camping trip with extended family. It’s going to be a blast, I’m sure!
Does your family like to get out and explore the great outdoors together too!? What are some of your favorite outdoors Father’s Day gift ideas? Let me know in a comment below!
