Time sure does fly! How did we just celebrate Annie’s first birthday?! We officially have a 1-year-old toddler on our hands and life is seriously so much fun. I think every new mom plans what they are going to do for their kiddo’s first birthday pretty far in advance, right? It’s such a BIG deal!! I actually thought I wanted to do a pink cowgirl themed party for the longest time but it wasn’t until our trip to the State Fair of Texas where I bought Annie this embroidered dress that the idea for a Fiesta themed first birthday hit me.
With most of our family living out of state, we decided to do something small and celebrate Annie’s special day at home. Patrick & I were extra thankful for our wonderful circle of friends here in Houston who were able to make it out and celebrate our sweet girl. It was a day we will always remember and we all had an absolute blast (plus our fill of tacos!!)
I’m sharing a glimpse of all the first fiesta birthday party decor below & linking up everything that we used in case you’re planning a similar party too!
It’s my birthday and I can cry if I want to!!
I think I might have loved Annie’s first fiesta birthday cake more than my wedding cake. Is that wrong?! You wouldn’t believe it, but we actually got this pretty cake from Sam’s Club Bakery for only $35! And they only needed 24-hour notice too. I was mega-impressed with the whole process.
First Fiesta Birthday Party Food + Drink:
Torchy Taco’s Platter + ALL the sauces
Guacamole
Queso
Seven Layer Dip
Birthday Cake
Topo Chico
Corona Lights + Sliced Limes
We knew we wanted tacos and even toyed with the idea of making our own. But picking up tacos is SO SO much easier, let’s be honest. We ordered a variety of options from Torchy’s Tacos and when there were a few left over … Patrick and I couldn’t complain one bit! We also grabbed all of the dips & chips from Sam’s in bulk sizes. It was the easiest to throw together and serve … because I didn’t even have to do a dot of cooking.
Most of the first fiesta birthday party decor was courtesy of Oriental Trading including the fiesta banner, paper dancers, pinata, fringe banner, plates and the napkins. We even ordered a dozen of these painted maracas to use as party favors. The kids all loved them!
We also ordered the giant tassel balloon from Big Ass Balloons, a local vendor here in Houston. They make dozens of balloons in dozens of different styles and colors fit for any occasion. The balloon was definitely a hit at the party!
And you guys, I am still swooning over this adorable invite!!!! The illustration in the picture even has the same dress on as Annie. #dying. I found this print on Etsy and just did a digital download for only about $16. Since our first fiesta birthday party was small, I just texted the invites to friends and printed out a copy to frame during the party. I’ll also throw the print in Annie’s baby book as a little keepsake too.
We also ended up taking the top layer of the cake off to use as Annie’s “Smash Cake.” She was super confused by it all and everyone watching was oh-so-entertained!
Smiling big with my one-year-old!!
Thank you again to all of our friends who made this first fiesta birthday so special! It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year but at the same time it feels like Annie has been with us forever. Cheers to many more adventures and special occasions with this little girl by our side!
