Is there anything better than a glass of red wine paired with cheese? Ask me and my group of girlfriends, and we’ll all say, “no way!” It not only is the best start to what you know will be a delicious meal to follow, but it can also stand alone on its own and be a meal in and of itself. (At least Patrick and I think so!) And paired with a tasty glass of vino, it’s a match made in heaven. Whether you’re creating a cheese & charcuterie board for yourself or for a party with friends, I absolutely love the idea of making it themed.
And because everything is bigger in Texas, why not have a Texas-Style Cheese & Charcuterie Board? Better yet, pair this decadent appetizer with Texas wines and you’re sure to put a smile on your guests’ faces. I’m celebrating Texas Independence Day with Llano Estacado Winery today, a Texas-based wine label, to share my take on how to create a Texas Themed Cheese & Charcuterie Board that pairs oh-so-well with these delicious wines.
It’s Time for {Texas} Wine
After all, Texas didn’t win its Independence so we could drink California wine?! 😉 Llano Estacado Winery is the largest, best-selling premium winery in Texas and produces over 50 different varieties of wine. With many of them award winners, I was naturally thrilled to try and taste their Cabernet Sauvignon, Texas Meritage Red Blend, & Signature Rosè.
While in my opinion, all three pair perfectly with this cheese & charcuterie spread, my favorite was definitely the Meritage Red Blend. Fun fact: Meritage wines are “crafted ‘noble’ Bordeaux grape varieties, and recognize the centuries-old tradition of blending – which has long considered being the highest form of the winemaker’s art.” In other words, you’ll not only love the taste but you’ll feel fancy while drinking it too!
Lone Star Looking Glass readers can grab Llano Estacado Wines for 10% off with the code LONESTAR10 until March 9th. And better yet, I’m also giving away a $25 gift card to shop the winery too! Details on that will be in my instagram post later tonight! Yay wine!
So … What Makes this Spread Texas-Themed?
Hello, jalapeno poppers! Stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon, this is an addition that I’m asking myself why haven’t I thought of this before?! I’ve also included local cheeses from across the state along with this spicy red pepper blend that is to die for. (Basically, include anything “spicy” and you can call it Texas-themed) 😉
Dry salami, coppa & prosciutto are an easy and obvious addition to any cheese & charcuterie board. Often times you can find all three sold together at the grocery store to make serving & arranging simple. Paired with French bread toasted rounds, juicy grapes & garnished with rosemary, this spread took only minutes to throw together and looks delightfully delectable!
Now for the fun part … eating it all!
