Houston has changed me in so many different ways. I could devote an entire blog post to this topic! One way for me to easily notice how the Bayou City has impacted me is through my style. My personal tastes and preferences have evolved almost dramatically since moving here from Knoxville six years ago. While part of this is due to age and maturity, it’s mostly thanks to living in a booming metropolis that provides oodles of exposure to trends, designs, and labels from all across the globe. The diversity of Houston’s residents, boutiques, restaurants, and its city-dwellers style is what I love most about H-town.

We have almost every big brand chain store that you can think of here in Houston, but it’s the smaller, more customized one-of-a-kind boutiques that are the most magical. Ann Mashburn sits right next to its male counterpart, Sid Mashburn, in the heart of River Oaks Houston. The dynamic husband-and-wife duo, Sid and Ann Mashburn, both have an incredible and colorful history in the fashion industry. Ann even “dabbled” in editing at Vogue … before becoming the Fashion Editor at Glamour!! Impressive to say the least! Extraordinary as their resumes are, Sid and Ann Mashburn had the vision to bring all of the things they loved into one place. They created a curated shopping experience that presents customers with all of the “right” choices as opposed to “a lot” of choices. With a mixture of pieces designed by the Mashburns themselves and brands that they trust and adore, an experience here is one-of-a-kind. Together, they curate every unique piece in both their woman’s and men’s boutiques – which include clothing, accessories and home decor.

They also have a fabulous website worth checking out so you can shop online! I popped into Houston’s own not too long ago and was practically swooning throughout my entire visit! The weather that day was in the mid-80s but all of the cozy fall sweaters, colorful plaids and tufts of fur had me counting down the days for the cooler weather ahead.

And just like that, the cooler weather arrived just in time for me to style my fall finds from Ann Mashburn! (Sidenote: Can y’all believe this cold front we’re having!?) Houston’s chilly weather called for a comfortable but stylish look and I’m so glad I had the foresight to grab these pieces way before the temps decided to drop.

Ann Mashburn offers a mixture of both oh-so-dressy pieces and weekend casual designs. When I popped in to visit, I knew I wanted to put together a head-to-toe look. Almost always my instinct is to go the dressier route. (In case you haven’t noticed, I have a love affair with sundresses!) But when I tried on this funnel-neck pullover, I simply had to go casual. This stylish pullover feels as cozy as your favorite sweatshirt from college while wearing it, all the while giving an air of elegance to your lounging. It’s lined with Japanese fleece and stands out with a drawstring hem that can cinch the waist. A cozy design style I can really get behind!

I paired my softer-than-a-cloud pullover with classic Levi’s jeans also from Ann Mashburn. I love the way this “boyfriend” cut looks rolled a bit at the hem and paired with heels or booties. It polishes laid-back style perfectly.

Last but not least, I thought this raccoon fur scarf from Ann Mashburn topped the whole thing off. I waltzed past several styles of fur scarves when I visited the boutique and this one particularly stood out. Growing up, my mom collected antiques and she had several fur coats, jackets, and stoles that she would let me borrow for special occasions. I finally “inherited” one and it remains one of the most special pieces in my closet. I saw this fur scarf and not only fell in love, but I also thought about how fun it would be for Annie to one day enjoy styling it too. A tradition I’d like to pass on!

A fur scarf in this style can dramatically change your look. I plan on dressing up holiday party looks with this pretty piece and layering it over a few coats and jackets too. The possibilities are endless!
