It’s safe to say that I just might love this delicate white embroidered ruffle dress just as much as I loved my wedding dress. I realize that is quite the bold statement to make, but it’s the truth! When I was approached by Southern Living magazine to be featured in their upcoming September issue (pinch me please!!!) I knew that I simply had to wear the most perfect “me” boho whitedress that I could find.
Sharing why this boho white dress stood out to me the most, & funnily enough why I ended up not wearing it for the feature after all along with a bit of beautiful blue New Orleans below!
Oh New Orleans, you certainly have captured my heart. I’m thinking I could see myself doing just fine living in this beautiful blue abode pictured right behind me. Can you imagine waking up each morning, sipping your coffee on the balcony above then strolling the French Quarter streets at the start of each day? So dreamy! We actually saw one of the owners of this home leaving while we were snapping these photos. I was sure to quickly stop and tell him how much I admired his beautiful home!
We stopped and stayed for a bit in the Louisiana capital on our way home from my Southern Living visit in Birmingham. The main reason I opted to drive instead of fly was because I saw that NOLA was the halfway point on the map!

Now to talk about this stunning white boho sundress! So like I mentioned above, I felt like picking out the perfect dress for the Southern Living shoot was the biggest deal. (I still can NOT believe that I am being recognized by one of my favorite magazines!! ahh!) Anyway, they say a photo says 1000 words. I wanted whatever photo snapped of me to represent who I was, my style and my personality in some way. An outfit is one of the simplest ways to do just that!
I spent days scouring the web to try to find the perfect dress and when I stumbled upon this white boho dress by Spell, I knew it was the one. It actually immediately reminded me of the dress Winnifred Foster wears in the movie Tuck Everlasting. This movie came out at a very impressionable time for little 7th grader Alice McLallen. I think Tuck Everlasting was what originally sparked my love of Victorian style and the exquisite details that went along with it. Since then, I’ve always gravitated towards anything ornate, lacy and that could have possibly been worn at the turn of the century lol. Of course, the pieces I’ve picked up along the way have always been modern styles that still fit into today’s world.
So why didn’t I end up wearing this white boho dress for the shoot!? Well, funny thing – it turns out the color white doesn’t really pop so well against a … white background. Ha, who would have thought?! In the end, the color scheme for the shoot turned out to be “gemstone” which nixed my white dress altogether. But it sure makes sense for a fall feature! Luckily I had this lovely dress hanging in my closet and was ready to pack it away at a moment’s notice.
I’m just going to have to dress up this pretty white Spell boho dress all season long to make up for not wearing it for the feature, right?! Or at least … that’s what I’m telling myself to make up for the splurge. Oh, but with details like these, I know I’ll be wearing this dress for years & years to come!
