How We’re Surprising Patrick this Father’s Day

This post has been sponsored by American Greetings. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

In just a few weeks, we will be celebrating Patrick’s third Father’s Day. It still feels like we became parents just yesterday and here we are in the middle of our third year of the greatest role we’ve ever had. Time sure does fly!! Parenthood can be (well … IS) a wild, wild ride. I love that Mother’s Day and Father’s Day give us a chance to go out of our ordinary routines and acknowledge the roles that Patrick and I both have in a special way.

Patrick sure made Mother’s Day special for me this year and I can’t wait to do the same for him come June! I’m also so excited to be teaming up with American Greetings to share their line of Father’s Day cards, available at Target this year. We gave Patrick his card a little early so we could share them with you all, but we put a surprise inside that can’t be used until Father’s Day weekend! Spilling the secret below & sharing a discount code to shop American Greetings cards at Target below …

Now that Annie is a bit older, she is able to get really involved in holidays. It’s the most wonderful thing to see her face light up while we’re doing an activity or trying something new. Having her partake in holiday traditions with us is all the more heartwarming and one of the greatest parts of being a parent.

In the past, Patrick and I would sign cards for one another as if we were signing them from Annie. This go-round, we let her loose on Patrick’s Father’s Day card with her crayons. The result might not have been a perfectly handwritten “Annie,” but I think it’s a whole lot better!!

Of course, I had to help out just a liiiiiiitle bit too!

You can find American Greetings’ line of Father’s Day cards right now at Target in the greeting card section. It’s nice that they have cards that acknowledge the different roles a father figure could come in, like a brother, a grandparent, and even a good friend. And if you need inspiration for what to write inside, head over to the ‘What to Write’ page on American Greetings’ website!

We choose a bright green card that’s simple but a lot of fun & filled Patrick’s Father’s Day card with a Target gift card to treat himself to whatever he pleases. We also added …. drumroll …  tickets for the family to see our favorite team play baseball in downtown Houston!

Annie has been getting into sports more and more lately, so I thought it would be fun for her to surprise her Daddy with the baseball tickets during a game of catch. After several rounds of throwing the baseball to Patrick as hard as she could, it was time to hand him his card. We laughed SO hard because she tried to throw him his greeting card as if it were a baseball! Two-year-olds never cease to run out of entertainment!

There are so many different ways to acknowledge the father figures in your life come Father’s Day. We always go the greeting card route and save them in this big envelope in our closet to look back on year after year. I’ve been trying to get more clever through the years by filling the cards with tickets to various events, hand-written coupons for special gifts, and more. My favorite types of gifts to give (and receive lol!) are those of experiences with the ones I love most. We’re counting down the days to celebrate Father’s Day as a family at the baseball stadium downtown. I’m sure it will be an unforgettable afternoon!

And check out our video below for a closer look into the cards and our afternoon spent surprising Patrick!

Big thank you to American Greetings for sponsoring this blog post. I was thrilled to be able to use this experience as an opportunity to get a jumpstart on my Father’s Day gift for Patrick. And as always, all opinions are my own. Thank you to you all for following along and supporting the brands that make Lone Star Looking Glass possible.
