I’m on the blog today talking about style on this sunny Tuesday! Since becoming a mom, my style has evolved exponentially. Gone are the days where my office uniform switched from billowy dresses and wedges to a pencil skirt and blouse the next day. I still absolutely love both looks but they just aren’t practical for the day-to-day when life consists of chasing a two-year-old, errands, squeezing in work at home and playtime too.
I now save dressing up for weekends, evenings out, traveling and special occasions. For the most part, especially while at home, my attire consists of comfortable basics. So today, I’m sharing my 5 basic wardrobe essentials as a busy mom on the go, below!
I’m also spilling the details on an ethical clothing brand that I just discovered that boasts some of the best basic pieces I’ve ever put in my closet! Head on down for more …
Basic Wardrobe Essential #1: a Good Pair of Beautiful Blue Jeans
This is a no brainer. Jeans are THE number one staple to any woman’s wardrobe. My top dresser drawer is filled with different styles. But when it comes down to it, there are 3 pairs that I tend to grab more so than any other: my high-waisted skinnies, my cropped jeans that feel like pajamas (great for the days I don’t leave the house!), and these Everlane cheeky straight leg jeans that flatter while also feel oh-so-relaxed.
Basic Wardrobe Essential #2: Comfortable Stylish Shoes
This is another no brainer wardrobe essential. Raise your hand if you feel more productive when you’re feet are comfortable?! I know I do. I typically rotate simple flats, bold Birkenstocks, and go-with-everything tennis shoes during the day or while traveling. Special outings and evenings, the sky is the limit when it comes to my shoes! But if Annie is coming along, I like to opt for a pair of heels that are both comfortable and stylish. You never know when you’re going to need to break into a sprint with a two-year-old in tow. These block heels are a recent find from Everlane that come in a bunch of different colors and will transition into fall with ease.
And if you notice in the snap above, yes, I diiiiiid just splurge on these Golden Goose sneakers! I know … I know … that price tag for a pair of sneakers. Sheesh! But after thinking about the specific pair for over 6 months, I realized it wasn’t going to be an impulse buy. So when a gift card was given to me recently, I put it towards my new shoes to help offset the cost and make the purchase seem not-so-frivolous. A week into my new kicks and I’ll say what every other blogger has said about them, they are sooooo comfortable! Like it’s kind of shocking that you don’t need to break them in and they feel like butter on your feet. What I love the most about them is that they seem stylish enough to pair with any dress in my closet.
Basic Wardrobe Essential #3: a Neutral Headband with a Bit of Something Extra
Here is my plea to the fashion world: please, oh please, don’t let this headband trend ever go out of style!! I just know it will at some point, and I hope I’m not too devastated. But goodness gracious headbands have become such an essential part of my wardrobe lately. I feel like they instantly spice up a look to make it even more stylish or chic. Whether it’s a beautiful dress with darling details, a simple headband up top adds interest while balancing the look too. A statement headband whether in style or color gives a simple look a bit of oomph too. However, the BEST BEST thing about them!? They let you go another day without having to wash or style your hair!! Which we all know a shower, time to use a hair dryer AND styling time is hard to come by as a toddler mama.

Basic Wardrobe Essential #4: a Roomy Crossbody Bag
Another key piece in my wardrobe is a neutral crossbody bag. I always opt for crossbody bags as opposed to totes when I’m on-the-go with Annie. For me, they make life easier when I’m scooping her up in my arms and having to carry whatever else at the same time. I always leave a diaper bag in the car filled with about 100 different things but I stuff wipes, 1-2 diapers, hand sanitizer and a few small snacks in my crossbody. I love this one from Hammitt because it has enough space to hold everything I need & more while still keeping a small silhouette. The other ones I carry on repeat are this white one from Patricia Nash and this brown tooled leather one also by Patricia Nash. I can’t get enough of her handbags!
Basic Wardrobe Essential #5: a Basic White Tee
I was recently introduced to Everlane, a line of incredible well-made basics pieces, by a good friend of mine. This gal pal can rock a plain white tee with jeans and she looks like Audrey Hepburn. I was always envious of her simple chic style and I honestly never knew how to attain it. Basics weirdly enough are hard for me!
So anyway, when she told me about Everlane, I looked the brand up and was instantly inspired. This ethical clothing brand not only produces amazing quality content at a fraction of designer prices, but they share their pieces in a way that is approachable to any woman with any style taste. Just take a look at all of the beautiful models and how they style their simple tees and jeans on the website and you’ll see what I’m talking about!
Their basic cotton tees, for the most part, are under $30 and are totally comparable in style and feel to many I’ve seen that are double the price. I was honestly so awe-struck by the quality and fit of this simple white tee that the day after it arrived in the mail I found myself filtering my own tee collection and pitching anything that wasn’t as flattering of a fit. In addition to tees and tanks in every style you can imagine, Everlane also has a low scooped-back bodysuit that looks chic-as-can-be paired with high waisted jeans. Paired with heels, this would be a cute outfit to wear to happy hour with the girls!
