I am normally never a Negative Nancy or a Debbie Downer type of person. I strive to always find the silver lining in things. But if I had to be nit-picky … August is my least favorite month of the entire year. Oh my goodness, it is just SO SO hot outside right now! To the point where it’s unbearable to even step foot on our back porch between the hours of 7:30 am and 7:30 pm. This could be the pregnancy hormones (and 3rd trimester response to the heat) talking but August, I’m already ready to say goodbye to you and hello to September.

Okay, okay, that was harsh. Sorry, August. You do have some special attributes …you are the month that kicks off the start of school and a “new year” in that regard. The pool is still open throughout August – which is definitely a plus! And I’m sure we will make the most of this hot summer month as best to our ability! (Adding popsicles to my instacart order as I say this.) I will do better to focus on the present and stop counting down the days until baby boy’s arrival this September. (48 to be exact!) These sweet summer moments will become distant memories in no time and I am sure I’ll look back on this summer, heat & all, so fondly with Annie.

In the meantime, I’m styling and sharing a dress appropriate for the August heat in today’s blog post + giving a 33-week bumpdate too! Head on down for more …

How are y’all hanging in there with this August heatwave? If you’re like me, you’re staying cool in sundresses this summer. I’ve stumbled upon so many great easy breezy bump-friendly styles this season. Being pregnant during the summer months may be tough with the heat and all … but it feels significantly easier to dress a spring/summer bump than it did a fall/winter one!

I’ve mentioned a few times how much I’ve been loving using Nuuly during this season of life. It’s a clothing rental company that hails from the team behind Anthropologie, Free People and Urban Outfitters – giving shoppers the opportunity to rent straight from their stores along with curated pieces from similar style bohemian brands too. Not wanting to invest so much in my maternity wardrobe, I’ve been so thankful for each month’s Nuuly arrival to freshen up my summer wardrobe.

This 3rd trimester black rickrack dress is a Nuuly find from designer, Carolina K. I’ve shared several Carolina K pieces on here through the years as this label’s vibe is sooooo my style! Carolina K picks up inspiration for its designs from travels throughout Latin America. Each piece typically boasts intricate hand-embroidered details stitched together ethically from artisans in remote regions of Mexico, Peru and India. Wearing a Carolina K piece is like wearing a work of art and this one is no exception! Also, bonus points for its generous silhouette that fits a third-trimester baby bump just fine!

3rd Trimester Update

Baby is the Size of: A head of celery. He’s roughly 16 inches long and weighs between 4.5-5 pounds already. It’s certainly starting to feel crowded in there!!

Feeling: Quite … quite uncomfortable. I’m not sure if baby boy is measuring big, positioned differently than Annie was or what … but it is safe to say I’m starting to feel a bit more uncomfortable this pregnancy than I did with hers. I’ll blame it on the summer heat, again ha! Or it’s the fact that it seems like he’s laying sideways and using my womb as his own personal hammock lol. Baby boy sure knows how to get cozy!

Cravings: Olive Garden. Cereal. Any & all sweets!

Will he be Early, On-Time or Late: This is the question I keep asking myself and would just love to know the answer to, ha. I’ve been having so so many Braxton Hicks contractions and a few “real” contractions that have felt a little painful these last few weeks. There was even a moment there where they were coming on 8-10 minutes apart for over an hour. It was a little scary thinking I was going into preterm labor but thankfully after following my doctor’s advice, the contractions subsided on their own. I’m no expert, but judging by all of this activity it feels like baby boy may want to make an appearance sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed that happens (once I’m full term!!) because then the opportunity to have a VBAC becomes much more realistic.

Looking Forward to: Baby boy’s “sprinkle” this weekend! We’re doing a small drive by baby shower at one of my bestie’s houses and I’m so excited. It’s going to obviously be so different than any other baby shower or party I’ve ever attended with everything going on right now. I’m mostly looking forward to seeing the smiles of friends and family that I haven’t seen in AGES saying hello out of their car windows. That has truly been the hardest thing that COVID has brought along with it, the distance we must keep between the ones we love. I feel so special that we found a way around that and can all celebrate together briefly this weekend. Oh! & my cousin is also due the SAME DAY as our little one and her shower is this weekend too. So the family reunions we have on our horizon will be double the fun!

Other mamas who’ve delivered late summer / early fall, do you have any tips on beating the heat and surviving the dog days of summer so far along in your pregnancy? If so, send them my way pretty please!

xo, alice
