If you’re looking for the perfect destination for a girl’s getaway, (or any getaway for that matter) look no further than Phoenix! Last month, my mom, Annie & I headed West for some rest & relaxation and to explore a part of the country we’ve never experienced before. Phoenix went above and beyond all of my expectations and I’ll be sharing every detail of our trip + recommendations in the city in a guide next week. But in the meantime, I wanted to chat all about one of the two hotels that we stayed at during our week-long trip: Mountain Shadows Resort.
Think mid-century heaven set at the base of a mountain with swanky vibes & a tasty restaurant to boot! Every corner was decorated to perfection and we truly felt transported into paradise during our stay. I mean … technically we were in the town of Paradise Valley … so it kind of comes with the territory right?! More on our stay below and why we loved the Mountain Shadows resort !
Mountain Shadow Resort
This historic hotel was built in 1959 and hosted some notable celebrities back in the early days. Completely rebuilt just last year, this luxury mid-century oasis is a stylish desert retreat with so much to see and explore.
As soon as you enter the lobby, the larger than life Camelback Mountain greets you from the glass windows and the courtyard beyond. The perfectly manicured green space in the courtyard made for an oasis for Annie to run around and burn off some energy upon our arrival. And the views surrounding us just added to the fun!
Mountain Shadows Resort: The Guest Rooms
We stayed in a double bedroom with a private balcony terrace situated with a gorgeous view of the courtyard and mountain beyond. My favorite part of the room was the modern decor that was right on theme with the rest of the hotel. I also loved the big walk-in shower and vanity area with its blue velvet stool to sit upon while getting ready for the day.
Mountain Shadows set up a crib for Annie in our room and even included baby lotion + shampoo with it. I’ve traveled quite a bit with Annie and this is the first time a hotel has included toiletry amenities for her too. It was a sweet little touch that went a long way for this mama traveling with her tot!
Mountain Shadows Resort: The Pool
A luxurious swimming pool is a huge attraction when you’re in the desert, right? Mountain Shadows resort is complete with two 75-ft long pools, connected between a waterfall, and both nestled underneath rows of palm trees. With gorgeous mountain views on either side, it’s almost more enjoyable to sit back, relax and just look around rather than swim! But swimming we did! The pools are heated during the cooler months to be enjoyed year-round.
Oh, and I couldn’t resist matching Annie in our swimmers from Kortni Jeane either. 😉 Crossing my fingers this little girl always lets me twin her!Â
We were also in Phoenix during the Super Bowl. And much to my husband’s chagrin, I’m not really into football all that much. (When it’s not the Tennessee Vols, that is!) So I was totally fine to spend the day poolside missing the big game and it’s award-winning commercials too. But it turned – I didn’t even have to miss anything! We rented a private cabana that was stocked with fruit + drinks and complete with a flat-screen television. The three of us (Annie included) were in a fit of giggles about our stylish Superbowl watching conditions at Mountain Shadows!
Mountain Shadows Resort: Dining
One thing that makes traveling with a toddler so much more enjoyable is having dinner at your hotel or resort. With the time difference from Houston, we were able to have dinner later than Annie’s typical bedtime and enjoy more of the evening hours too.
Mountain Shadows resort is home to Hearth ’61, a delicious restaurant that is named in honor of the year Paradise Valley was incorporated into a town. With a large and swanky patio, guests can dine al fresco with the gorgeous views of the mountain off in the distance. Another tip when traveling with a toddler? Eat outside whenever you can! Eating outside keeps Annie entertained and distracted for longer … which lets her mama and Nana enjoy their dinner even more. 😉
Speaking of dinner, Hearth ’61’s was oh-so-delicious! We shared several sides family style (including the tastiest brussel sprouts ever) along with tenderloin of beef with blue cheese fondue! My mom and I always like to order separate dishes then share … but this one sounded too good for both of us to resist. (Oh & it was!)

Twinning once again in our Roller Rabbit favorites! I can’t stop, y’all!!
We spent two nights at the Mountain Shadows Resort and then hopped on over to Hotel Valley Ho for another two nights. They are both owned by the same team but have totally different vibes from one another. I’ll be sharing a look into our visit there too, so stay tuned!
Thanks so much to Mountain Shadows Resort for the lovely stay! This is definitely a place I want to come back again to visit … and soon!
