SHOP MY SPRING LOOK:
There’s nothing like springtime in Texas. Having lived here for over half a decade now, I very much realize the importance of maxing out on outdoor activities this time of year. As soon as July rolls around it’ll be just a bit too hot to even leave the comfort of our homes. But let’s not think about that just yet!! Spring has sprung and this lovely weather has brought out some of the most beautiful blooms too!
In my effort to take advantage of the season, I recently spent a day exploring the grounds of Bayou Bend Gardens here in Houston. Knowing that I would be spending time on my feet, I opted for a pair of stylish and comfortable sandals by Sofft Shoes. I dressed these comfy kicks up with a striped sundress fit for exploring. More on this springtime look and my garden adventure below!
Bayou Bend Gardens: A Historic Gem in the Heart of Houston
Bayou Bend Gardens house the Museum of Fine Arts Houston’s house museum. It boasts the former mansion and luxurious gardens of Texan socialite Ima Hogg. Ima Hogg (bless her heart with that name!) was an avid collector of the arts, ceramics and fine furnishings. A tour of her home showcases just that along with a peek into her lavishly manicured gardens.
I seem to frequently stumble upon historic home tours. It also seems that visits to sprawling & preserved gardens attached to said historic homes has become somewhat of a rarity – at least here in the United States. The fact that Bayou Bend Gardens are nestled right in the heart of Houston always surprises me. Ima Hogg’s home and gardens are tucked away so tightly it’s easy to drive by the grounds and not even know its there!
Visitor Info: The home and gardens are open every day except for Monday. Guests can opt to visit just the garden or pay a bit more for a self-guided tour of the mansion.
On this particular day, we opted to spend every available second outside soaking up the sun and exploring the grounds at Bayou Bend Gardens. Can you imagine what it must have been like if this was YOUR backyard?! Just lovely, I would think!
Shoes fit for Springtime Strolling
When it comes to traveling and being on your feet all day, there’s nothing better than a pair of sandals that you can wear with just about anything – especially when they’re as cute as they are comfy! The Nalda sandal by Sofft Shoes is one of my favorites for spring. It has a caged silhouette with breathable material and stretch that gives the shoes an extra level of comfort no matter what you’re up to!
After peeking in every nook and cranny that the luscious Bayou Bend gardens had to offer, we popped our heads into Ima Hogg’s pink house and vowed to come back again when we had more time to do a self-guided tour justice.
Is it just me or does this house remind any of y’all of Captain Von Trapp’s home in The Sound of Music? Maybe it’s those green shutters or the circular drive, I’m not sure but something about it had me wanting to skip around singing “I Have Confidence!”
Have you visited Bayou Bend Gardens before?
I’ve only been a few times but I’m vowing to go at least once or twice more this season. A visit here makes for a truly peaceful and beautiful afternoon getaway. One of which seems unbelievable that you can do right here in the center of busy Houston!
