Feeling like pumpkin spice incarnate in this cozy fall outfit.
On a heavier note than the usual, I’ve mentioned on stories here and there that we’ve been going through a lot as a family with my dad’s cancer taking a turn. It’s been tough and I’m reminded again and again why we made the move to Memphis three years ago. Couldn’t be more thankful to be home closer to family than I am now.
It’s been hard to not dwell so much on what’s been going on lately. Staying busy with the children is the most blessed relief. My dad has really great days – but also really hard days too. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever been through to be honest. I can’t even imagine what my mom is going through. She’s a saint and holds us all together.
The other day I met up with her for an impromptu visit to the Dixon Gallery & Gardens. (Where these pumpkin house photos were snapped. Feels funny to pair those post with such cheery photos – but alas!) The Sporting Fashion through History exhibit was only at the Dixon for a few more days and I knew my mom didn’t want to miss it. What was just going to be a typical Thursday with errands and work obligations thrown in turned into a sweet, peaceful, fashionable fall distraction spent with my mom.
Our afternoon reminded me of the importance of slowing down, putting a pause on the hustle/stress, and taking time for ourselves – whether it be just a stroll outside or a stroll through a new exhibit at one of our favorite museums. Self care can look different for everyone.
Getting dressed up for the day has always given me a sense of purpose. Even on the days where I want nothing more than to spend the entirety of them in bed. Feeling dressed in my best is a simple way to trick myself into feeling mentally better as well. No matter the circumstances.
So with that, I donned this ruffle burnt orange sweater from CROSBY by Mollie Burch. I paired it with straight leg jeans, new Bernardo loafers and with what has become my go-to handbag of the season.
Whether you’re going through something bringing on BIG feelings too, or just trying to get through the day – I hope you find the time and different things to brighten your spirits to remind yourself what brings you the most joy too.
