If you’ve been following me on instagram, then you may or may not have noticed the overload of all the goodness that was Fashion Houston Five.
Last week the Wortham Center, Houston’s very own ballet theater, was transformed into Fashion Houston Five – four nights of decadent style displayed on one very long runway.
I was able to make it to two out of four nights and let me tell you, they did not disappoint.
Wednesday evening, Houston fashionistas were out in full force. And lucky for us, the cold weather decided to take a break that night. We were able to strut our stuff, without a bulky coat in hand. Texas weather sure is a bit cray!
But I’ve learned to love it. Especially when it enables me to wear this sparkly holiday dress for the first time without a care in the world for wintery temperatures.
You may recognize this Starlit Stripes Dress from Anthropologie’s holiday catalog last year. You know me, I absolutely love a good deal, and I was able to snag this for a pretty penny at the end of the season. It has been safely tucked away these long summer months just waiting for the right time to make its debut.
I’m afraid that I am so in love with it, I will now most likely be wearing it to every holiday party this year. Sorry ya’ll for the outfit repeating in advance. 🙂
Since this particular dress is no longer available, some similar options at
varying price points are below, if you are interested!
With a pretty dress like this, I walked out onto Fashion Houston’s red carpet and felt as if I fit right into the trendy crowd.
A fancy dress will do that to a girl. 😉
Several other Houston bloggers were there sharing in the fashionable evening as well. I finally got to meet Miranda, who blogs at Shop and Twirl. I had such a good time with the sweet girl!
I’ve also discovered that getting a big group of bloggers together is a truly unique (and wonderful) experience! It’s not every day that you’re with a large group of girls who are all toting massive cameras and taking pictures of everything in sight. Usually it’s just you. So it’s nice to share in this fun hobby with others.
And bloggers don’t seem to mind a bit to snap a photo for you or wait on you for a hot minute while you’re editing pictures on your phone.
Because, most likely, they’re probably doing the same thing. 😉
LIQS cocktail shots were one of the sponsors of the week.
And….what’s not to be bothered with a colorful tray full of cocktails following you all around the red carpet?
Shots that taste like candy are a welcome treat! Especially if you’re like me, and have a phobia of regular ol’ shots in the first place.
Just had a flashback to my 21st birthday. Okay enough of that!
Standing on the red carpet I was truly mesmerized by all the party-goers and they’re stylish outfits. It felt like I was browsing a swanky online boutique, but the clothes were modeled on real people and right in front of me.
And we are halfway through this post and I haven’t even gotten to the actual fashion show yet!
Please stay tuned. 😉
The chic crowd eventually found their seats and it was time for the show to begin.
In all honesty, I completely geeked out. Having never been to something like this before, I wasn’t sure what to expect. And to no one’s surprise, I was absolutely blown away once the show started.
There were moments that I had to convince myself I was still in Houston, not New York or Vegas. This big city is just full of surprises!
Wednesday evening, we were treated to the delightful designs of The Art Institute of Houston, Rubin Singer, M.C.L. by Matthew Campbell Laurenza, Rene Ruiz, and Naeem Khan.
If ya stick around, I’ll let you know who was my favorite at the end.
For now, sit back, relax and enjoy a bit of Fashion Houston Five.

Rene Ruiz’s swoon-worthy gowns were a huge hit with the crowd.
You could hear the audience’s communal gasp each time the models stepped out onto the runway.
And mine was certainly right there with them.

Okay Okay….this floral gown…I’m absolutely in love.
Definitely my favorite of the evening, and if I were to ever own this beautiful piece, I may just never take it off.

Having never been to a show like this before, seeing these beautiful designer gowns in person was both inspiring and simply breathtaking.
We were lucky to be so close to the runway that there were times we could even hear the tiny beading on the gowns swish to and fro as the models strutted their stuff.
As for my favorites – I loved the glamorous gowns from Rene Ruiz, simply stunning! But I have to say, my heart also found another love in Naeem Khan’s designs. From swanky sportswear pieces that I could actually wear in my everyday life to floral gowns that were so fabulous, I’d make up an event just to have the excuse to wear one, Naeem Khan gained a new fan overnight.
To tide you over until Thanksgiving, I’m sharing a bit more from Fashion Houston Five later this week. And as always, thanks for stopping by the blog!
Ps – this blogger is now on Facebook! Check out the Lone Star Looking Glass and give it a “like” if you feel so inclined. It would be much appreciated!
