Hello from the other side … of my 20s that is! Yesterday was, in fact, my birthday! I turned 27. While 27 isn’t considered a big turning point in one’s life, it feels for some reason MUCH MUCH MUCH older than 26.
I am now officially in my “late” 20s. Weird!
Today I’m talking fashion (obviously) as well as sharing a bit of my thoughts on my 27th year of life & the little bucket list I made for this year, with you all.
Naturally, we’re talking fashion first.
Today’s look, as I mentioned on my instagram yesterday, just so happens to be my favorite outfit of 2016. Okay, it’s only been 18 days, I know …. but I’ve literally worn this top, pant, bootie combo like 4-5 times in this 18-day timespan.
The heather gray & white ruffle peplum sweater-shirt combo is less than $30 from one of my favorite budget friendly online shops, SheIn. Sometimes shopping at these cheaper online shops can be risky, you never know what the cut or quality is going to be like in person.
Well, let me be the first to tell you that the quality of this top is SO impressive for its price point! Very thick (warm too!) and the fit is true to size. I ordered a size small and it’s actually a bit loose on me. Which isn’t always normal … so if you’re looking for a more fitted look, I’d size down,
To step up this casual yet feminine look, I paired it with Swedish Hasbeens’ “Zip it Up” booties and my favorite light pink purse. (which also comes in white, purple, and gray!)
These 70s style booties are made by the people behind my favorite summer sandals, & it’s so much fun to wear a winter appropriate pair that are just as comfortable as my summer ones.
Y’all may or may not be aware how much of a Henri Bendel fangirl I am. With their classically designed purses, fun colors and not too much of an in your face logo, I think I’ll just take one of each, please!
And I’ll add a purse pom for good measure. It’s 100% safe to say that purse pom key chains are the strangest trend of 2016. But … I like it!

So a bit about turning 27. This weekend was spent celebrating my sister-in-law marrying the love of her life so that’s where my mind was all weekend long. My sister-in-law’s wedding was absolutely amazing! I could have danced to the fabulous band that played literally all night long. The next morning arrived, and people started wishing me happy birthday. I was kinda like wait, what!? I kept forgetting with all of the hoopla!
Yesterday, Patrick and I made the drive all the way from Jackson to Houston – a good 7 hours. It
flew by, though, we have been listening to the book The Girl On The Train and it has us captivated the entire time.

Once back in Houston we had a special birthday dinner at Mockingbird Bistro. The atmosphere was perfect, so cozy & romantic. The two of us wined & dined and had a blast.
Now that it’s the 18th of January and so begins the rest of my life as a twenty-seven-year-old. I have a couple of bucket list items I want to potentially accomplish this year.
- See a redwood forest (we have plans to visit Big Sur in April!)
- Less social media browsing more book reading
- Come up with a few more “family recipes” … other than chili & taco soup! (our go-to’s)
- Eat out less … like WAY less
- More lunch dates with Patrick! <3
- Continue with barre (currently 3 classes into a 1-month package … it’s a mind game convincing myself to go!)
- Attempt to finish the Outlander book series
- Volunteer more
- Camp at LEAST once .. or twice .. or three times this year
- Hike a local Houston trail (they DO exist!)
- Be better at responding to blog e-mails (it can be hard when balancing a full-time job, my friends)
- Go to more blogger events
- But also watch more movies & have more chill nights at home
- Enjoy family life as just you & Patrick this year … because who knows when that’s going to change
- Attend at least two blog conferences this year
- Involve yourself even more creatively in your career
- And finish reading The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up book you got for Christmas … because it’ll probably help out in all aspects of your 27th year of life
- Slide down the waterslide on our cruise (bachelorette cruise trip in March. Wooohoo!!)
- Pray more
- & live every day to the fullest!
Do you like to make little goals you want to accomplish each year, when you turn a new age? It’s
kinda like a New Year’s Resolution but much more fun.

Wishing y’all all a great start to your week! If you have today off … I’m incredibly jealous. So enjoy!
