What’s more quintessential summer than an afternoon picnic in the park? Now that I’m home with Annie every day, I try to avoid having too much of a routine and throw in some sort of fun, out of the ordinary activity, at least once or twice a week. Whether it’s a nature walk, trip to the museum or a picnic in the park, I love getting out and about with my little gal! My good friend Brittany and her daughter Charlotte are always joining us on our adventures too. A few weeks ago we thought we’d spice up our Mother-Daughter date and bring along a bottle of chilled white wine!
Today I’m sharing a few things to bring along on your next summer picnic & I’m also chatting about this oh-so-delicious Verdejo wine from Rueda!
I’m all about vintage inspired picnics. In my opinion, if you’re going to picnic, you need to go all out! Gingham blanket? Check! Wicker basket? Check! Cheese, bread & fruit? Check, check, check!
White Wine
One thing I don’t forget to check off my list is a bottle of wine! I may have overpacked for this occasion but trust me, we only drank one bottle! 😉
Nothing beats a chilled glass of white wine come summertime, especially in hot Houston. I recently posted about my newfound love for Verdejo wines in this post here. This Spanish white is crisp & refreshing. The subtle flavors of green apple make it perfect to pair with fruit, cheeses & meats!
Meat & Cheese
Basically my favorite combination. It’s so easy to run to any grocery store for delicious meats, cheeses & bread. I grabbed a French baguette, several slices of salami, a block of Welsh cheddar & a roll of Camembert. This cheese board that they’re sitting on is ahhhhmazing because it’s made of melamine and is super lightweight! Perfect for my on-the-go cheese adventures! {Believe it or not … this is a thing for me!}
Flowers & Fruit
Another thing that I think is fun {but totally not necessary} to pack along on a picnic are fresh flowers! I have so many small vases left over from my wedding so I just tossed two in my basket and a few sprigs of baby’s breath from my kitchen table. I felt like it made our picnic that much more elegant, so much so that we sat around for hours not wanting to leave!
Fruit is also a must. Healthy, colorful & a tangy/sweet balance to the rest of the spread.
Annie’s little face in this picture just kills me! Can’t. Handle. The. Cuteness!
Brittany and I were cheesing while trying to get the babies to smile. Annie only JUST discovered baby Charlotte and the two of them together are seriously the cutest thing!
{Also, French baguettes can sometimes double as baby toys} lol 😉
The four of us spent several hours in the shade sipping, snacking and playing with the babes. Hermann Park in Houston is my favorite spot to picnic. Not only are the grounds gorgeous, but the people watching is pretty great too! I’m definitely planning on recreating this spread for a night out on the hill picnicking and watching the symphony at The Miller Outdoor Theater. Literally my favorite summer activity!
