I still can’t believe I get to wear coats on a regular basis now that we’re back in Tennessee! For the last six years, coats were reserved specifically for holiday vacations or wintery getaways. Maybe, just maybe, I could whip one out in January or February if the weatherman surprised us with true wintery temperatures in Texas.
Lately, I’ve been slipping on colorful winter coats for school drop off, to run errands and to top over festive dresses for evenings out. The fashionista in me obviously can’t get by with just one statement coat hanging in my closet! A stylish coat adds a whole new layer to play with when outfit planning. Some winter coats are so stylish, my entire outfit is planned around them as opposed to the other way around.

The fall and winter seasons seem to just beg me to pull out my favorite plaid prints in any and every form. Having not been able to rock a plaid winter coat for so long, I jumped at the chance to shop for one at the beginning of the season. This red plaid coat was the one for me! It is a recent Anthropologie find that I scooped up for under a $169 on sale! (At the time, Anthropologie was running a promo, so I was able to get the coat for an extra 25% off this price too.) The regular price was $298 so I felt I found this fabulous find for such a steal! It’s still available in many sizes so if you’re on the hunt for a statement coat, now’s the time!
I’ve worn this beauty several times, even over a mini dress in oh-so-frigid temperatures. Let me tell you, this coat kept the cold air out & left me still feeling warm inside its wool-blended layers. For the most part, I’ve been wearing it over simple sweaters (like this soft Superdown sweater from Revolve) and jeans. But this plaid winter coat also looks just as stunning styled atop a festive black party dress! The cut is quite elegant and I love that the length falls below the knee, keeping the chill at bay.
