Who am I right now? … I’m wearing a YELLOW maxi dress! Yellow has never been my “color.” No shade against the “shade” but yellow has not once been a hue to compliment my skin tone. With my Rent the Runway Unlimited subscription, I’ve found I now have the luxury to try trends, styles, even colors I wouldn’t otherwise invest in permanently. (Especially when it comes to a higher price point piece like this dress.) Last week, I decided to take the risk on a temporary lease of this Ulla Johnson number and am pleased to say, I think it worked out quite nicely!
Sharing more of this look below and a few Wednesday ramblings on fall colors, fashion and what we’re up to this week!

My Favorite Yellow Maxi Dress
This Ulla Johnson yellow maxi dress certainly is one to make a statement. The bold hue it boasts is more mustard than your typical sunshiny yellow and I think that’s what drew me to the dress initially (other than its a gorgeous silhouette.) Mustard felt like a safer shade to style for fall than bright yellow, that’s for sure. When the dress arrived I slipped it on and felt much paler than usual upon glancing at myself in the mirror.
But once I paired this pretty dress with bold brown accents the outfit seemed to tie together for the season nicely. I opted for my brown Tecovas booties, a classic Brahmin handbag, and a brown belt I found years ago at Anthropologie to dress it down for fall.
On another note, but I just ordered this burgundy prairie dress that comes in a similar style silhouette to the one I’m styling above. I’m thinking this deep shade will be even more fabulous to rock all fall season long.
Wednesday Musings
Our New Favorite Music Spot in Memphis
In other news, Patrick and I had a date night out last night at Celtic Crossing in Midtown Memphis where we saw a group of Irish musicians play together. Sipping on cider and Guinness on the patio had us feeling like we were back in the Temple Bar in Dublin. One of my good friends, Mallory, (the girl who got married in Ireland last fall) even joined us for the occasion! The only thing that kept reminding us that we were, in fact, in America was the Astros World Series game boasted on the big screen behind the bar. Patrick was in his happy place and I was in mine!
If you live in Memphis, Celtic Crossing entertains diners with live Irish music every Tuesday night from 7 pm -10 pm. I’m planning to partake in the merriment as often as I can this fall.
Figuring Out How to Feed a Crowd
Now that we live in Memphis, we have so much family SO CLOSE to us and they come over and hang out all the time. It’s seriously wonderful and I never imagined how life could feel so full when your house is filled with the people you love. I will say, I have had a hard time figuring out the best meals, snacks, and drinks to have on hand when company spontaneously pops in for a visit. Get-togethers have consisted of one to many meals catered out which gets expensive when it’s done so often. My goal this week is to get a Costco membership and start looking into easy dinners to feed a crowd. I’ll also be testing my next recipe out on Halloween. I’m currently debating on doing a big pot of chili or traditional spaghetti. What are your favorite meals to feed a big group?
