Pull up a chair and please join me at the dining room table – because today I’m chatting all about our Boho Mid Century dining room. This space has been finished for a while now and is finally making its way to the blog. It also just so happens that we cleaned all the clutter off of our wooden dining room table & it looked so fresh & bright in here I started snapping photos for the fun of it. (Sidenote, who else seems to use their dining room table as a catch-all for any & everything!?)
I’m not sure there is a correct word to truly encompass my personal home decor style but mid-century modern bohemian with a mix of “grand millennial” seems to really fit the bill. This space combines my love for antiques, vintage pieces, bold colors & whimsy. I also always jump at the chance to play hostess and I truly enjoy nothing more than having every seat filled at our table with the ones we love. Sharing all of the details that went into our dining room design & this special family gathering place of ours, below!
Boho Mid Century Modern Dining Room
A Table Great for Eight (or more!)
Upon moving to Memphis last summer, we knew we wanted to create a big welcoming dining space in our new home to host family and friends. We have quite a bit of extended family in town that regularly come over for casual dinner parties – so a big extendable table was a must. I love this simple and elegant extendable wooden dining table from West Elm. We ordered this beautiful table in its largest size, 72″ – 92″, that way we could host as many guests as possible. It’s pictured above with the expandable leaf in, which is how we keep it most of the time.
A Stylish Storage Solution for This Mid Century Dining Room
Our buffet table was also a West Elm find. In case you haven’t noticed, we love to shop West Elm! We purchased this white buffet specifically for our smaller dining room in Houston. It definitely works in this space too but I think Patrick and I would love to update it down the road with a larger piece in either a bold color or dark wood tone. The white on white doesn’t necessarily do it for me in this house – but I made up for that by hanging a large antique gold mirror above the buffet table and displaying colorful accents atop it.
Having a storage place in our dining room is an absolute must! We’ve filled the drawers of this modern buffet table with decorative plates, silverware that only makes an appearance on special occasions, napkins (and their shiny rings), candles and candlesticks, and even a few board games too!
Personal Touches to Top the Tables
I’ve decorated our dining room with statement-making vases, intricate frames, and beloved snaps from adventures at home and away. Most of the frames I’ve found are from Anthropologie. I just love their sense of whimsy when it comes to home decor!
And while I wish I had our vases filled with fresh sweet-smelling blooms, I’m not the green thumb in this family. Faux it is! (But I do tend to opt for fresh flowers when I’m actually hosting people!) This teal glass vase sitting at the center of our dining room table was a score from Final Cut during a recent trip to Augusta, GA. I filled it with flowering stems from Target that will last for years. These faux florals are less than $5 a stem too! For the Grecian Feminine Vase sitting atop our buffet table, I dried out a few hydrangeas from the garden to give this gal some fun hair for the summer!
Take a Seat
Our dining chairs also came with us from our home in Houston. I really like them in this room but I don’t know if I’m sold on them forever. I think in a few years I’d love to replace them with something like this but I know these mid-century white chairs are going to be great in here while our kiddos are little. They are oh-so-easy to keep clean! And not only that, but the price point is fabulous too at less than $100 per chair from World Market.
Curtain Call
The combination of white walls, a white buffet table, and white chairs just begged for a bold colorful curtain to tie everything together. I combed through the colors in our rug and art and settled on this beautiful shade of blue for our dining room curtains. These Petra Velvet Curtains are not custom or anything but have such a high quality feel to them that they seem like they could be! They are also from Anthropologie, come in a few different colors and are linked here.
I’ve ordered velvet curtains from various places for a few rooms in our home and have been so impressed by the quality of the Anthropologie ones we’ve ordered. They aren’t quite blackout but darken the space enough – especially when we want the open-concept downstairs space as dark-as-can-be for a mid-afternoon matinee in the living room!
Bold Blue Accents to Tie This Mid Century Dining Room All Together
Have you all noticed yet that I have a tendency to gravitate towards the color blue? This modern print from Minted was in our living room back in Houston and seemed to fill this spot in our new house just perfectly. We used the colors in this print to pick out a dining room rug and settled on this one from the Skye Collection by Loloi Rugs, available at Amazon. We put a thick rug pad underneath it for added comfort, as this is a higher traffic area in our home. It honestly makes for a great dining room rug as the rug is printed, not woven, which makes it so much easier to clean after Taco Night for Ten!

I know that this mid century dining room will evolve as the years go on and hopefully continue to host numerous dinner parties with the ones we love too. Thanks for stopping by the blog today for a dose of my take on home decor. I’ve had a blast decorating my house (even though it is NOWHERE close to being finished) and am thrilled to finally share more of my take on decor with y’all!
