NYC: Fashionable Night Out in the Meatpacking District

Oh, New York City, how I love you so! A little over a month ago, my mom & and I planned an impromptu trip to the Big Apple. We divided our 5-day city stay into three “mini-trips,” so we could explore three different neighborhoods to their fullest. With each neighborhood & hotel we hopped to, a completely different experience ensued!

And this week, I’m sharing three blog posts, each one focusing on a distinct part of NYC … starting with our first night in The Meatpacking District.

About.

The Meatpacking District hugs the Hudson River and is dotted with cobblestone streets, swanky bars & restaurants and high-end shops galore.  What was once home to the city’s meatpacking plants, tenement buildings & lumberyards now houses world famous art galleries & big names in luxury fashion – both thriving in grand & glitzy converted warehouses.

Lunch Spot: Santina.

My mom and I kicked off our NYC vacation with lunch under The High Line at Santina, a quirky & colorful Italian restaurant with an interesting but delicious menu. The two of us munched on Squash Carpaccio & Eggplant Rigatoni while catching each other up on life.

An invitation to the launch party for Ego Soleil, a colorful & contemporary women’s NYC clothing line, was what ignited the spark for this trip to New York. (Like I really needed an excuse to go, but this was a good one!)

I slipped off to the party (leaving my mom to happily browse 100+ fabulous neighborhood boutiques) and met up with bloggers and fashionistas from across the country.

All Dressed Up.

And a few from Houston too! It was so much fun to be able to see Lilly & Elly while in NYC!

Cocktails (& mocktails) were sipped while we were treated to a style presentation for Ego Soleil’s latest collection.

Isn’t this orange perfect for UT gameday!? (Naturally, this is what comes to mind anytime I see anything orange!)

Ego Soleil’s bold pieces effortlessly make a statement and range in cuts and colors that could work for both day & night.

The event that evening benefitted Style Saves, a non-profit that provides students with the essentials to start the school year off in style, (think school uniforms, backpacks & school supplies) thus giving students the confidence they need in order to excel.

A Place to Stay.

After the event, we settled into our hotel, which was just around the corner & right in the heart of The Meatpacking District: The Standard High Line.

With a gorgeous view of Manhattan, this hipster-iffic boutique hotel did not disappoint. We loved the eccentric & the revolving neon yellow door at The Standard’s entrance. Our room was spacious with mid-century touches and a low-lying king bed that was as comfortable as can be!

Now, the “modern,” if you will, shower that was part of the bedroom itself was quite interesting for a mother-daughter stay. (Much more conducive for a romantic vacation with your significant other.) We just took turns reading books in the lobby while the other one got ready for the day! ;-P

Where to Sip & Stare.

Downstairs is The Standard Plaza, which is an open-air public square with a cafe & coffee stand that evokes all things Amalfi Coast. It’s a great place to stop for an iced coffee, desert or slice of pizza – all while people watching, of course.

We finished our one-night stay in The Meatpacking District with coffees on the patio followed by a walk up The High Line towards Chelsea Market.

Oh, & Chelsea Market is a must see when visiting this part of NYC! From bakeries, gift shops, to upscale dining spots (& my favorite spot to shop of all Anthropologie), we found ourselves visiting the Market not once, twice but three times during our trip!

Stay tuned tomorrow for a peek into our Upper East Side NYC experience!

And as always, thanks for stopping by the blog.
