Mother’s Day Adventure at River Oaks Shopping Center:

My mom came down to Texas for a week-long visit and oh my goodness we had the best time! How did it come and go so quickly though!? That always seems to happen. We look forward to our visits for so long then they pass by in a blink of an eye. We decided to go all out for Mother’s Day this year since we weren’t able to get together for the occasion the year before. Plus, now that I’m a mom, I feel like I need to spoil my own mom 10,000 times more – knowing just a little bit about what she must have gone through with me!

I always love shopping and strolling through River Oaks Shopping Center and as my mom had never paid it a visit before, I knew we had to plan a day for us here. I’m sharing a peek into our Mother’s Day adventure below including one of my favorite shops for women of all ages – along with deets on a delicious lunch spot I know I’ll be visiting again soon! Head on down below for more …

I call myself a life + style blogger, but let’s be honest, there is quite more of an emphasis on the word style when it comes to my content. I play dress up … A LOT.  Whenever my mom comes in town she always asks to see my latest finds in person and flips through my closet. Most of the time that closet conversation includes “Can I have this?” or “You don’t really wear this do you?” And usually ends with either an “Are you crazy?” or “Ok, sure take it.” from me.

We had planned a Mother’s Day brunch with Annie at La Griglia and of course, wanted to get dolled up for the occasion. I also wanted to treat my mama to something brand new to wear to brunch … that wasn’t necessarily a hand me up for my closet. 😉 We popped into Ann Taylor, which is such a wonderful place to find classic pieces for dressier occasions, and spent hours shopping together!

It was so much fun to have my mom in town (aka best friend) to do a little shopping with. Normally when I visit stores, I’m with Annie and we are determined to make it in and out as fast as possible. You know, before a toddler meltdown is sure to ensue. This visit to Ann Taylor was so relaxing because I knew I had a helping hand in grandma with Annie plus a grown up to talk to & share the fun with too!

A few of my favorite finds from Ann Taylor’s spring collection are rounded up below. The floral prints, lace details, and gingham is completely swoon-worthy and so perfect for SO many occasions.

It isn’t a visit to River Oaks Shopping Center with mom without stopping in Sur La Table! They actually don’t have one of these where she lives in Memphis so she always loves to pay Sur La Table a visit whenever in Houston.

Naturally, I wanted to take home all of the blue & white dishes and spring-scented candles on display! Annie looked a little bit tempted too, don’t you think?

A quick little outfit change into our goodies from Ann Taylor and we were ready for lunch on the patio at La Griglia. This Italian Eatery is open for lunch & dinner and has a colorful and eclectic vibe throughout the restaurant. As soon as we sat down, fashionably dressed lunch-goers started to tickle in and made for some pretty great people watching too if I do say so myself. When you’re in the heart of River Oaks in Houston, you know the fashions of those around you are going to be good!

I can only imagine how lively this colorful patio gets each evening!

My Mother’s Day Outfit:

Now onto the outfits! I mentioned above that Ann Taylor’s spring line is completely swoon-worthy. And I wasn’t lying! This flirty ruffled gingham skirt is just too much fun. It can be dressed up with a white scalloped blouse like mine above or even dressed down with a cotton tee tied at the waist and flats. I love the idea of pairing a bright colored tee with it, like mint or coral too! My scarf, necklace and bow-tied heels are also from Ann Taylor. All three are 40% off right now & have the most exquisite details of their own.

Three happy girls! We had such a wonderful day spent playing at River Oaks Shopping Center. If Annie was a little bit older, I imagine we would have crossed the street after lunch to see a matinee at the River Oaks Theatre. The movie theater was built in 1939 and has kept its charm & beautiful art deco vibes ever since. We’ll just have to pay the theatre a visit that next time!

Thanks for following along on our Mother’s Day adventure. And thank you to River Oaks Shopping Center for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions are my own & I’m so thankful that you guys support the brands that make Lone Star Looking Glass possible. Now, how are you celebrating Mother’s Day this year or the mama’s in your life!? Shopping in brunch is always a good idea if I do say so myself!

xo, alice
