Three cheers for the first room in our home to be entirely finished! That doesn’t mean we haven’t been working oh-so-hard on all of the other spaces in our house, they just have yet to be completed. But finally, we can close the door on one and open it up to you all in today’s blog post. I’m so thrilled to be sharing a peek into our fully transformed guest bedroom with HGTV HOME® by Sherwin-Williams today.This room needed some love and a fresh coat of paint and a few fun accents did just that and more.

Guest Bedroom Makeover – Before:
Our guest bedroom has always been a catch-all space with no coherent theme or decor. In our previous rental homes, we never put the time or energy into updating this special room reserved for guests. Furniture, decor, and accents in the guest room were always some sort of “hand me down” found from the different corners of our home. On top of that, our guest room often acted as a storage space. Anything that didn’t have a specific spot to go typically wound up in our guest room. Needless to say, the room where we hosted the ones we loved most for overnight getaways was the most overlooked room in our entire home.
It wasn’t until we moved to Memphis and started hosting guests more frequently that we realized we needed to do something about this predicament. Thankfully we have a bit more extra space in our new home so the storage problem isn’t as much of a dilemma. But the decor, on the other hand, needed some work.
Guest Bedroom Makeover – During:
When it came time to pick a paint color for our guest room, I had no doubt in my mind that I wanted to find a deep shade of blue/green or teal to transform the space. Blues and greens are the colors that make me feel the most relaxed. I wanted overnight guests to come to our home and feel just that!
It’s fitting for this project that we went with Island Time (HGSW2312) by HGTV HOME® by Sherwin-Williams. It is part of their 2020 Color Collection of the Year, Simply Blissful, which is a curated palette of 10 complementary colors that can work together to create a relaxing vibe, or oasis if you will, in your very own home.

A Beautiful Bed for Guests to Lay their Head
We kept the same bedding we had before in here, just rearranged it a bit – adding an Art Deco-inspired ivory velvet headboard and tossing a matching Morrocan inspired throw pillow on top to tie it all together.
Matching gold antique mirrors hang above the bed to tie the many brass elements scattered about the room together. We found a pair of marble top side tables and wall sconces for reading to act as a fresh take on the traditional bedside table and lamp.
A Nod to Texas with Succulents & Cowboys
A ceramic cactus, fresh greenery, and succulents in bold white vases accent the top of a dresser we’ve had since our college days. We hung a copy of one of Remington’s famous Western paintings that we found at a Texas antique shop above it. I love how the colors in the cowboy print work so well with this room!
A Spot for Guests to Get Dolled Up
This vanity that I’ve also had for years found a home in our guest room. After staying in several quaint bed & breakfasts through the years, I’ve realized how important having a vanity space aside from the bathroom can be in your guest room. I wanted to make a similar spot for our guests to get ready in our home too.
I found this simple stool from Ikea and painted it with a fresh coat of Fundamental White (HGSW4001), another shade from HGTV HOME® by Sherwin-Williams Simply Blissful Color Collection.

Patrick and I still can’t believe it only took us a weekend to totally transform our guest bedroom. As soon as we found the perfect color, everything else just seemed to fall into place. Now, who’s ready to come visit and be our first house guest in our refreshed guest bedroom?!
