We all know that Spring temps like to fluctuate and dressing in layers is key this season especially. Butttt …. I really should have listened to my own advice while packing for my current trip to Memphis! I’m now typing this from a coffee shop wearing my mom’s winter coat. Brrr!! It’s cold up here! I’m certainly looking back on these colorful spring photos in this post and missing those 70-degree temps in Houston!
Anywho, today I’m talking about spring layers and how I like to style my overalls this time of year. With the temps fluctuating throughout the day (and Houstonians notorious for blasting that AC) I almost always have a lightweight cardigan at the ready. I love this tiered-silhouette style from Joseph A. It goes with anything from laid-back overalls to a smart sundress and heels. Chatting more about this look + what I’m up to in Memphis below!

Have you guys jumped on the overall bandwagon as much as I have? I’ve been LIVING in this pair since I bought them last month. I feel like the structured style of these overalls makes them easy to dress up or down. I also usually try to wear them with a very feminine top to make them look a bit more girly as opposed to farm-girl chic. The shoe choice always makes a big difference when styling them too. Anything with a heel (whether big or small) instantly elevates the look.
While adding a third layer to overalls can be kinda tricky, I mean, there is already a lot going on, it certainly can be done! Sometime’s I’ll wear a big chunky sweater underneath the straps, but most of the time I opt for a lightweight cardigan that complements the look. I mentioned above how much I’m loving this black tiered cardigan from Joseph A. They make incredible basics and colorful knits that are a staple in any woman’s wardrobe. (See how I styled their Flutter Sleeve Sweater in this post here.) The tiered details in this cardigan add a fun touch to the classic style and totally want to make you spin around just to see the cardigan in action. Which I, of course, had to do … pictured above! 😉
At the moment, you guys can grab anything JosephA.com for 40% off with the exclusive code STAR40! There is also free shipping until 4/9 too. Woo! This sweater also comes in a gorgeous green, tulip pink and a buttery yellow that just screams Spring!

A bit about what we’re up to in Memphis
Now to tell y’all a bit about what I’m up to in Memphis! For those that don’t know, I actually grew up here. I lived in Memphis until I started college at The University of Tennessee and I come back to visit every chance I get. My entire family still lives here as do many of my besties from high school and college. Typically I would only come up for a few weekends each year – squeezing in as many visits with friends & family as possible. But now that I have the flexibility that blogging full-time and motherhood has given me, I’ve come to stay for the entire week!
It’s been so great to be able to fit in QUALITY time with some of the people I love most. I grabbed lunch with one of my life-long friends yesterday and we haven’t been able to spend that type of time together in years. It was so nice! Many members of my family also haven’t even seen Annie walk yet (in person) so it was SO special to be able to share all of her new “skills” with everyone this week too.
We’re planning on making the most out of our stay this week and visiting all of my favorite M-town haunts. We’re also throwing in some new ones now that I’m a mama too – like the zoo, local playgrounds & the children’s museum. 😉 It’s a whole lot of fun seeing the city I grew up in with new eyes now that I am sharing it with my daughter.
