It’s true. I’m a sucker for advertising. Or maybe it’s just the Outlander series in general. Instagram must reallllly know me. As I was scrolling through friends’ stories on insta-story, an ad popped up recommending that I binge the Outlander series before the new season drops next week. I responded in my head with, “Okay … yes … I most certainly will!!!”
So for the past few days when I’ve been spending my evenings back in 18th century Scotland – which brings me to today’s post. Doesn’t this plaid skirt look just like a Scottish plaid kilt of Clan Fraiser?! I clearly spend too much time watching TV. But that thought alone makes me love the skirt all the more!!
I’m sharing two different ways I’m styling it for fall in today’s post with deets on both looks and where you can find all the pieces below.
The fuller silhouette and array of colors in this plaid wool skirt really draw the eye, so balancing it with the right top is key. I chose a simple graphic tee to bring the skirt down a notch, making it more casual for every day. It also takes the look as far as possible from giving off a “school girl vibe.”
My wool skirt is by Lafayette148 and the plaid is called the “Prince of Wales check.” I love how so many plaid patterns have a story to tell all their own! Did you know that many plaid patterns honor different Scottish families? Patrick and I really should come up with a specific Kerley plaid pattern, I’m thinking. Wonder if there is one already!?

While this plaid skirt comes in a bit higher price point, it’s one that I know will live in my closet for years and years and years. (After all, they’ve been in style for centuries!) I’ve linked a few under $100 above though!
For a colder day, I like the idea of pairing my plaid kilt (I mean skirt!!!) with a simple neutral sweater half tucked into the front. Once you put on this cozy one by Ann Taylor you’ll find it’s so soft and cuddly you’ll never want to take it off.

Okay, now back to Outlander! I can’t wait to see how Claire and Jamie take on America in the upcoming season. But I’ll so miss that pretty Scottish scenery the show is known for, that’s for sure. Who else watches Outlander and has read the books?! I’ve read half the series but those books can be quite meaty and intense that they take me almost months to finish. (I do have the habit of picking up a new book and reading it in between … that’s probably why.) With all the craziness that life throws my way, I find escaping into TV shows and otherworldly books such as these being my best form of medicine. What’s your favorite way to wind down and escape reality for a bit!?
As always, thanks for stopping by the blog!
